Overview
On a table 84 in long, traverse speed counts for a great deal, and the Haas VF-7SS is the version built around it: X and Y rapid at 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min), the spindle turns 12,000 rpm and cutting feeds go to 833 ipm (21.2 m/min). Travels are 84 × 32 × 30 in (2,134 × 813 × 762 mm) over an 84 × 28 in (2,134 × 711 mm) table.
Consider a row of fixtures down the table, each holding an aluminium part with a few dozen features. On the VF-7/40, with its 600 ipm (15.2 m/min) rapids and 500 ipm (12.7 m/min) feed limit, a good share of the cycle is spent crossing between stations. The VF-7SS covers that ground at twice the rate in X and Y, and its changer swaps tools in 2.3 s. Z rapid is 945 ipm (24 m/min).
