Goodway GLS-2000 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Goodway GLS-2000 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Goodway or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Goodway's GLS-2000 is the 8 in member of the GLS-1500 series: a linear-guideway slant-bed turning center with an 8 in big-bore chuck, Ø65 mm (2.6 in) bar capacity and a 4,500 rpm spindle. Its place in the lineup is easy to state. It is the smallest Goodway lathe that combines a Ø65 mm bore with an optional Y-axis and sub-spindle.

The spindle motor is rated 11 kW (14.8 hp) continuous and 15 kW (20.1 hp) on the 30 min. rating. Goodway calls the drive a two-speed motor-driven spindle. X-axis travel is 230 mm (9.1 in). In Z the buyer picks 330 mm (13.0 in) or, on the L bed, 630 mm (24.8 in), and turning length matches the Z travel in both cases. Parts up to Ø390 mm (15.4 in) can be turned under a Ø560 mm (22.0 in) swing.

A 4,000 rpm live tooling turret is optional in 12 or 24-station form with ER25 collets. The 24-station disk is worth a look for families of parts, since it lets a full set of turning and driven tools stay mounted between jobs. Add the Y-axis and the machine gains 105 mm (4.1 in) of cross travel while turning diameter becomes Ø310 mm (12.2 in).

Back-end work is handled by an optional sub-spindle, rated 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) continuous at up to 6,000 rpm. That is a pick-off and finishing spindle. Heavy second-operation cuts belong on the main spindle. The optional tailstock base travels 300 mm (11.8 in) or 500 mm (19.7 in) according to bed length.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Ø65 mm (2.6 in) bar capacity with optional Y-axis and sub-spindle in the same machine
  • Optional 24-station live tooling turret, ER25, 4,000 rpm
  • Two bed lengths: 330 mm (13.0 in) or 630 mm (24.8 in) of Z travel
  • Turns up to Ø390 mm (15.4 in) under a Ø560 mm (22.0 in) swing

Limitations

  • 4,500 rpm main spindle, against 6,000 rpm on the GLS-1500
  • The optional sub-spindle is rated only 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) continuous and 5.5 kW (7.4 hp) for 5 min.
  • Turning diameter is Ø310 mm (12.2 in) once the Y-axis is fitted
  • The longest turning length is 630 mm (24.8 in)

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What spindle does the GLS-2000 have?

An 8 in big-bore chuck on a spindle with Ø65 mm (2.6 in) bar capacity and a maximum speed of 4,500 rpm. The motor is rated 11 kW (14.8 hp) continuous and 15 kW (20.1 hp) on the 30 min. rating.

02 What live tooling is available on the GLS-2000?

An optional live tooling turret with 12 or 24 stations, ER25 collets and a live tooling speed of 4,000 rpm. Goodway quotes indexing times of 0.2 second to an adjacent station and 0.5 second to the opposite side of the disk. C-axis control comes with it in the M variation.

03 What does the L version of the GLS-2000 change?

Bed length. The standard machine has 330 mm (13.0 in) of Z travel and turning length; the L machine has 630 mm (24.8 in). The optional tailstock base travels 300 mm (11.8 in) on the short bed and 500 mm (19.7 in) on the long one. X travel stays at 230 mm (9.1 in).

04 Can the GLS-2000 machine the back of a part?

Yes, in the S, MS and YS variations, which carry a sub-spindle. Goodway's table gives it a top speed of 6,000 rpm and ratings of 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) continuous and 5.5 kW (7.4 hp) for 5 min. The feature list describes it with a 5 in chuck and a built-in motor.
