Goodway GLS-150 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Goodway GLS-150 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Goodway or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Goodway GLS-150 is a 6 in, 6,000 rpm slant-bed lathe on linear guideways, with 500 mm (19.7 in) of turning length and Ø51 mm (2.0 in) bar capacity. It is the faster of the two machines Goodway sells on this bed. The GLS-200 is the same machine with an 8 in chuck and a larger bore.

For a lathe of this size the motor is generous. Goodway lists 11 kW (15 HP) continuous and 15 kW (20 HP) for 30 min., and describes the drive as a two-speed motor-driven spindle that covers both heavy cutting and precision work. A built-in spindle appears among the options.

X travel is 210 mm (8.3 in) and Z travel 520 mm (20.5 in) over a 30° slant bed, with a Ø500 mm (19.7 in) swing. Goodway gives the footprint as approximately 4.6 m2. The turret is a servo-indexing unit with 12 or 10 stations.

Two things a buyer might assume are standard are not. The tailstock is an option: when fitted it has a Ø70 mm (2.8 in) quill with 150 mm (5.9 in) of travel, an MT#4 live center and 290 mm (11.4 in) of base travel. Live tooling is an option too, as the M variation, which brings a 12-station ER25 turret running 10 ~ 4,000 rpm and C-axis control. No Y-axis or sub-spindle is offered on this model; those begin with the GLS-1500.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 6,000 rpm spindle with an 11 kW (15 HP) continuous, 15 kW (20 HP) 30 min. motor
  • 500 mm (19.7 in) turning length on Z travel of 520 mm (20.5 in)
  • Linear guideways on X and Z over a 30° slant bed
  • Footprint of approximately 4.6 m2, by Goodway's figure

Limitations

  • The tailstock is an option, not standard equipment
  • Bar capacity is Ø51 mm (2.0 in); the GLS-200 passes Ø65 mm (2.6 in)
  • No Y-axis or sub-spindle variation is listed for this model
  • Live tooling tops out at 4,000 rpm and needs the M variation
06

Best For

Small bar and chucking work that benefits from 6,000 rpm Shaft-type parts up to 500 mm (19.7 in) with the optional tailstock Shops with limited floor space for a 6 in lathe

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the GLS-150 and the GLS-200?

Chuck, bore and speed. The GLS-150 has a 6 in chuck, Ø51 mm (2.0 in) bar capacity and 6,000 rpm. The GLS-200 has an 8 in chuck, Ø65 mm (2.6 in) bar capacity and 4,500 rpm. Travels, swing, turret and motor ratings are the same.

02 Does the GLS-150 come with a tailstock?

Goodway's table marks the tailstock as an option. Its figures are a Ø70 mm (2.8 in) quill, 150 mm (5.9 in) of quill travel, an MT#4 live center and 290 mm (11.4 in) of base travel. A servo tailstock is also shown as an option.

03 How much power does the GLS-150 spindle have?

11 kW (15 HP) continuous and 15 kW (20 HP) on the 30 min. rating, at up to 6,000 rpm. Goodway describes the drive as a two-speed motor-driven spindle intended to cover heavy cutting as well as precision machining.

04 What turret options does the GLS-150 have?

The standard servo-indexing turret has 12 or 10 stations and, per Goodway, changes to the opposite station in 0.5 seconds. The M variation replaces it with a 12-station live tooling turret using ER25 collets at 10 ~ 4,000 rpm, together with C-axis control.
