Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Glebar GT-610 SD that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Glebar GT-610 SD is the member of the GT-610 centerless family set up for superhard materials such as polycrystalline diamond, where the right grinding process is not known in advance. It is an infeed and thrufeed machine with a 15 hp (11.2 kW) work wheel spindle and a wheel 8.625 in (219 mm) long, and it grinds diameters from 0.05 mm to 38.1 mm.
What Glebar adds here is instrumentation. The machine was configured to gather the parameters that affect the grind, so the process can be analysed and then tuned for throughput and wheel life. The control detects loading on the grinding wheel and starts a dressing cycle when one is needed. Part diameter feedback corrects the dress profile and the slide positions for size variation by station, and a built-in automatic balancing system takes out wheel vibration. A variable speed vector drive holds surface speed constant as the wheel wears.
Mechanically it follows the family pattern. The work rest blade rides on one axis and the regulating wheel on an independent second axis, both on high-rigidity roller guides and both with a stated resolution of 0.1 microns. The work wheel is 10 in (254 mm) or 12 in (305 mm) in diameter and runs at 2,500 rpm. The 6 in (152 mm) regulating wheel has a 2 hp (1.5 kW) drive listed at 400 rpm. Diameter accuracy is given as better than 0.00005 in (1.27 microns).
Compared with the GT-610, the SD gives up some capacity, since the GT-610 takes parts to 2.0 in (50.8 mm). The two share a 66 x 54 x 94 in (168 x 137 x 239 cm) footprint, but the SD is listed at 8,100 lb (3,674 kg) against 3,130 lb (1,420 kg) for the GT-610, so treat it as a different rigging job. Supply is 480 VAC, 3PH, 60 Hz at 40 A. ABEC 7 bearings and a variable frequency drive for superabrasive wheels are available items.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- The control detects loading on the grinding wheel and starts the dressing cycle itself
- Built-in automatic wheel balancing, where the GT-610 lists balancing as an available system
- Blade and regulating wheel on independent axes, both with a stated resolution of 0.1 microns
- Diameter accuracy better than 0.00005 in (1.27 microns)
- Part diameter feedback corrects the wheel dress profile and slide positioning for size variation by station
- Work wheel of 10 in (254 mm) or 12 in (305 mm) diameter on a 15 hp (11.2 kW) spindle
Limitations
- Maximum part diameter is 38.1 mm, smaller than the 2.0 in (50.8 mm) of the GT-610 and GT-610 CNC
- Listed weight is 8,100 lb (3,674 kg) in a 66 x 54 x 94 in (168 x 137 x 239 cm) footprint, a concentrated floor load
- ABEC 7 bearings and the variable frequency drive for superabrasive wheels are available items, not standard
- Regulating wheel speed is listed as one figure, 400 rpm, where the GT-610 lists a 10-200 rpm range

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Supermaterials such as polycrystalline diamond and other hard materials where the grinding process is unknown and difficult. Glebar configured the machine to gather the parameters that affect the grind, so the process can be tuned through data acquisition to improve throughput and wheel life.
02
The SD adds a built-in automatic wheel balancing system, load detection that triggers dressing, and part diameter feedback to the dress profile. Its maximum part diameter is 38.1 mm, against 2.0 in (50.8 mm) on the GT-610, and it is listed at 8,100 lb (3,674 kg) where the GT-610 weighs 3,130 lb (1,420 kg). Both use a 15 hp work wheel spindle at 2,500 rpm.
03
A work wheel of 10 in (254 mm) or 12 in (305 mm) diameter and 8.625 in (219 mm) length, running at 2,500 rpm, and a 6 in (152 mm) regulating wheel on a 2 hp (1.5 kW) drive. A variable frequency drive on the work wheel spindle is available for superabrasives such as vitrified CBN.

Glebar gives diameter accuracy as better than 0.00005 in (1.27 microns). The work rest blade and the regulating wheel are carried on separate axes with roller guides, and Glebar states that both axes maintain a resolution of 0.1 microns.
