Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Weldon UGC that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Weldon UGC is a small CNC internal grinder built around a 4 in (102 mm) chuck, with 7.08 in (180 mm) of work swing and room for up to 3 grinding spindles. ID spindle speed is listed at 30,000-120,000 rpm, chosen by application, in an 80 mm (3.1 in) spindle housing bore.
Those speeds define the work. Small bores need small wheels, and small wheels need very high spindle speed to reach a useful surface speed, so a range that runs to 120,000 rpm points at small-bore work. Which end of the range a machine gets depends on the application, so the spindle has to be specified with the parts in hand.
Up to 3 spindles can be mounted, and the X axis has 27.5 in (700 mm) of travel to carry them past the part, against a Z travel of 9.0 in (229 mm). With more than one spindle, a bore and a second feature can be ground in one chucking, each with its own wheel. Both axes rapid at 400 in/min (10.2 m/min), so stepping from one spindle to the next costs little time.
The workhead is a live spindle, variable from 100 to 2,000 rpm, and it swivels from 0° to 30°. That swivel is how tapered bores and angled seats are set up without a form-dressed wheel.
The UGC sits on a cast iron base, takes 65 x 70 in (1,651 x 1,778 mm) (W x D) of floor and weighs 3,400 lb (1,542 kg), lighter than the AGN4 at 4,600 lb (2,087 kg). The two share the FANUC 0i-TF Plus control, listed here with 5582 m of program storage. Power is 208/240 V, 3-phase, 60 Hz, and air is 5 SCFM at 80 psi. The table gives no machine height, no spindle power and no workpiece weight limit.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- ID spindle speeds from 30,000 to 120,000 rpm, selected by application
- Carries up to 3 grinding spindles across 27.5 in (700 mm) of X travel
- Workhead swivels from 0° to 30° for tapered bores
- Small and light: 65 x 70 in (1,651 x 1,778 mm) of floor and 3,400 lb (1,542 kg) on a cast iron base
- FANUC 0i-TF Plus control with 5582 m of program storage
- Rapid traverse of 400 in/min (10.2 m/min) on X and Z
Limitations
- Sized for a 4 in (102 mm) chuck and 7.08 in (180 mm) of swing, so larger parts are out
- Z travel is 9.0 in (229 mm), which limits bore depth and part length
- Spindle speed is set by application within 30,000-120,000 rpm; one spindle does not cover the whole range
- No spindle power, workpiece weight limit or machine height is listed
- Workhead speed starts at 100 rpm and stops at 2,000 rpm

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The ID spindle speed is listed as 30,000-120,000 rpm, by application, in an 80 mm (3.1 in) spindle housing bore. In practice that means the spindle is selected for the bore sizes being ground. The workhead is separate: a live spindle variable from 100 to 2,000 rpm.
02
Up to 3. They are served by 27.5 in (700 mm) of X travel and 9.0 in (229 mm) of Z travel, with a rapid traverse of 400 in/min (10.2 m/min) on both axes. Several spindles let different wheels work on the same part without re-chucking it.
03
Small ones. Chuck size is 4 in (102 mm) and maximum work swing is 7.08 in (180 mm). Z travel of 9.0 in (229 mm) bounds part length and bore depth together. No maximum workpiece weight is given in the table.
04
The workhead swivel angle is listed as 0° to 30°, so the part can be set at an angle to the spindle travel. That covers tapers up to the listed swivel. The table gives no figure for how the angle is set or measured, so ask Weldon if you change taper angles often.
05
208/240 V, 3-phase, 60 Hz power and 5 SCFM of air at 80 psi. Floor area is 65 x 70 in (1,651 x 1,778 mm), width by depth, and the machine weighs 3,400 lb (1,542 kg). Height is not listed.
