Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Glebar PG-9CRG that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Glebar PG-9CRG is an OD grinding system that plunges a formed wheel into a part held on its own centerline, in a collet, instead of supporting it centerless. The ground diameter therefore comes out concentric to the shaft. Glebar gives rubber rollers for laser printers and dental drills as the two ends of its range. Grinding length and work wheel length are the same figure, 12.625 in, printed as 32 cm for the grind and 321 mm for the wheel.
Because the whole profile is formed in one plunge, the wheel does not have to travel along the part the way it does on a conventional OD grinder. The work wheel is 9 in (229 mm) in diameter, driven by 15 hp (11 kW) at 2,400 rpm. Collet rotation and speed are variable, so the removal rate can be matched to the material. The slide is fully programmable, and Glebar states it can be positioned to an accuracy of 0.1 microns. Roundness is listed as 0.0005 in (13 µm).
This is a long machine. The footprint is 141 x 48 x 94 in (358 x 122 x 239 cm), about three times the floor length of the FW-9D at 47 x 39 x 50 in (120 x 99 x 127 cm), which grinds parts up to 5 in (127 mm) long.
Much of what Glebar lists around the grinder is automation. An available robot carries two grippers and loads and unloads during the grind cycle. An available dressing system advances a diamond tool automatically and dresses the work wheel while tracing a formed template. The machine also connects to non-contact inspection systems for hands-off operation. Electrical supply is 480 VAC, 3PH, 60 Hz at 40 A, and air is 3 CFM at 80-90 PSI.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Forms the whole profile in one plunge across a 12.625 in (321 mm) work wheel
- Part is held in precision collets, so the ground diameter is concentric to the shaft
- Fully programmable slide that Glebar says can be positioned to an accuracy of 0.1 microns
- 15 hp (11 kW) work wheel spindle at 2,400 rpm
- Variable collet rotation and speed to tune material removal
- Interfaces with robots and non-contact inspection systems
Limitations
- Footprint of 141 x 48 x 94 in (358 x 122 x 239 cm) is long for a machine with a 12.625 in (32 cm) grinding length
- Listed roundness of 0.0005 in (13 µm) is coarser than the 0.0002 in (5 µm) of the PG-9DHD
- The loading robot and the automatic template dressing system are available items, not standard
- The table here carries no machine weight or stock diameter range, so rigging data and part limits have to be confirmed with Glebar

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A centerless grinder supports the part on its outside diameter. The PG-9CRG holds the part in precision collets and rotates it on its own centerline while a formed wheel plunges in, so the ground diameter is concentric to the shaft. Glebar classes it as an OD grinding system for that reason.
02
Grinding length is 12.625 in (32 cm), matching the 12.625 in (321 mm) length of the work wheel. The shape is ground into the component in one plunge motion, not traversed along the length of the part.
03
A 15 hp (11 kW) work wheel spindle running at 2,400 rpm with a wheel 9 in (229 mm) in diameter. The collet that carries the part has variable rotation and speed, which Glebar says is used to get efficient material removal at controlled speeds.
04
Yes. Glebar lists an available robot with two grippers that loads and unloads during the grind cycle, an available dressing system that automatically advances a diamond tool while tracing a formed template, and connection to non-contact inspection systems for hands-off operation.
