Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Glebar PG-9DHD that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Glebar PG-9DHD is a centerless form grinder that Glebar describes as the high-precision version of its PG-9BHD. It plunge grinds spherical and cylindrical parts from 0.002 in (0.05 mm) to 4 in (100 mm) in diameter against a work wheel 9 in (229 mm) in diameter and 10.125 in (257 mm) long, with a maximum grinding length of 10 in (254 mm). Several parts can be formed in a single infeed motion.
The precision claim rests on the slide. Resolution is 0.1 µm (0.000004 in) and stated roundness is 0.0002 in (5 µm). Glebar writes the control software itself and says it is fully customizable to the application, with a touch-screen interface on top. One practical detail: the machine can serve as its own work wheel dresser, with the operator dressing the grinding wheel manually on the machine.
Spindle power is a choice. The options are 7.5 hp (5.6 kW), 10 hp (7.5 kW), or 15 hp (11 kW), and Glebar suggests the largest for heavy grinding such as turning G10 fiberglass cylinders into balls. Wheel speed is 2,375 rpm. The regulating wheel has a 2 hp (1.45 kW) drive covering 10-400 rpm, and a separate 2 hp (1.5 kW) motor runs the hydraulic pump.
For what it does the machine is small, at 47 x 39 x 50 in (119 x 99 x 127 cm) and 2,000 lb (908 kg). A cast iron frame is standard and a granite bed is available. So is an enclosed version with safety interlocks. Buyers who want the enclosure and granite as the standard build should look at the PG-912DG, which has a 12.625 in (321 mm) wide wheel and weighs 3,700 lb (1,678 kg). Supply is 480 VAC, 3PH, 60 Hz at 40 A, with 3 CFM of air at 80-90 PSI.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Slide resolution of 0.1 µm (0.000004 in) and stated roundness of 0.0002 in (5 µm)
- Forms multiple parts per cycle on a 10.125 in (257 mm) long work wheel
- Spindle motor choice of 7.5 hp (5.6 kW), 10 hp (7.5 kW), or 15 hp (11 kW)
- Compact: 47 x 39 x 50 in (119 x 99 x 127 cm) and 2,000 lb (908 kg)
- Can be used as its own work wheel dresser, with the wheel dressed manually on the machine
- Rod or ball feeding systems from the top or the side, from semi-automated units up to stainless-steel hoppers
Limitations
- Maximum grinding length is 10 in (254 mm); the PG-9X20DHD is the model for parts up to 20 in (508 mm)
- Cast iron frame is standard; the granite machine bed is an available alternative
- The enclosed version with safety interlocks is available, not standard
- On-machine wheel dressing is manual

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Form grinding of spherical and cylindrical components in a single plunge. Glebar names deodorant balls, golf balls, composite spindles, contact lens blanks, check valves, frac balls, fuses and insulators among the parts ground on its form grinders. Part diameter runs from 0.002 in (0.05 mm) to 4 in (100 mm).
02
Maximum grinding length is 10 in (254 mm), on a work wheel that is 10.125 in (257 mm) long. Shorter parts can be ground several at a time in one infeed motion. For longer work Glebar builds the PG-9X20DHD, with a 20 in (508 mm) wheel, on the same base.
03
The work wheel motor is 7.5 hp (5.6 kW), 10 hp (7.5 kW), or 15 hp (11 kW), running the wheel at 2,375 rpm. Glebar points to the 15 hp motor for heavy grinding of materials such as G10 fiberglass. The regulating wheel drive is 2 hp (1.45 kW) with a 10-400 rpm range.
04
Not as standard. Glebar lists an enclosed version with safety interlocks as available, and a granite machine bed as an alternative to the standard cast iron frame. The PG-912DG is the form grinder that is enclosed and granite-based as standard.
05
It measures 47 x 39 x 50 in (119 x 99 x 127 cm) and weighs 2,000 lb (908 kg). Electrical supply is 480 VAC, 3PH, 60 Hz at 40 A, and air is 3 CFM at 80-90 PSI. A 2 hp (1.5 kW) motor drives the hydraulic pump.
