How much does the Fryer SL-10 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fryer SL-10 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fryer SL-10 is the mid-size slant bed turning center of the SL series: a 10 in (254 mm) hydraulic chuck, 14 in (356 mm) of maximum turning diameter and 24 in (610 mm) of working length as standard. It steps up from the SL-8 in every structural row, with an A2-8 spindle nose, a 3.4 in (86 mm) bore, 3.0 in (76 mm) of bar capacity and a 40 hp (29.8 kW) peak motor.
Length is where this model opens up. The SL-8 stops at 46 in of extended Z travel. For the SL-10 Fryer lists extended Z travel to 46", 60" and 80", and the table shows a distance between centers of up to 83 in (2,108 mm). A slant bed lathe with that much Z and a tailstock is a shaft machine: pump shafts, spindles, rolls and long hydraulic rods, turned between centers to the +/- 0.00010 in (0.0025 mm) positioning accuracy of the series.
Speed is 3,500 rpm maximum. Fryer offers a 2 speed ZF gearbox for the SL series, which matters on the larger diameters and tougher materials a 40 hp spindle invites. Peak axis thrust is 6,360 lb on X and Z, and rapids are 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min).
The machine draws 80 A at 380-500 VAC and weighs 14,500 lb (6,577 kg). Its footprint in the standard length is 108 x 69 in (2,743 x 1,753 mm). Bar capacity can be raised to 3.62" with Big Bore Option 2, and the chuck can be upgraded to 12 in (305 mm).
