Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fermat FP that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Fermat's FP is a bridge-type milling machine: the portal stands still and the table carries the workpiece under it. Table travel in X is 4,500/5,500/6,500/8,500 mm (177.2/216.5/255.9/334.6 in), and the table is rated for 25,000 kg (55,115 lb).
Fixing the bridge takes the heaviest structure out of the moving axes. Only the table moves in X, and Fermat gives it a rapid feed of 25,000 mm/min (984.3 ipm), the fastest long axis among its portal machines. The trade-off is floor length, because the table needs its own travel again beyond the bridge, and a ceiling on part weight that a fixed-table gantry does not have.
Table plates are listed as 4,000/5,000/6,000/8,000 x 2,000/2,500/3,000 mm (157.5/196.9/236.2/315.0 x 78.7/98.4/118.1 in). The milling headstock crosses 3,600/4,100/4,600 mm (141.7/161.4/181.1 in) in Y at 15,000 mm/min (590.6 ipm), and the ram travels 1,550 mm (61.0 in) in Z at 20,000 mm/min (787.4 ipm).
Spindle speed is 5,000/6,000 rpm with SK 50, BIG+ or HSK100 tooling. The Heidenhain or Siemens ratings are 43/60 kW or 53/77.9 kW (S1/S6), with torque of 917/1,274 Nm or 1,591/2,338 Nm, which points the machine at milling and drilling with moderate cutter sizes. Heads and other accessories are optional.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Table rapid feed of 25,000 mm/min (984.3 ipm) in X
- 25,000 kg (55,115 lb) table load
- Table plates up to 8,000 mm (315.0 in) long and 3,000 mm (118.1 in) wide
- Y travel up to 4,600 mm (181.1 in) across the bridge
- 5,000/6,000 rpm spindle with up to 53/77.9 kW (S1/S6)
Limitations
- Part weight is capped at 25,000 kg (55,115 lb) because the table moves
- Longest X travel is 8,500 mm (334.6 in)
- Torque tops out at 1,591/2,338 Nm (S1/S6)
- The moving table needs clear floor at both ends of the bridge

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Fermat lists it with its gantry and bridge-type machines and describes it as a bridge-type machine with movable table. The bridge is stationary, the table travels 4,500/5,500/6,500/8,500 mm (177.2/216.5/255.9/334.6 in) in X, and the headstock and ram provide Y and Z.
02
The table load capacity is 25,000 kg (55,115 lb). Plate dimensions are 4,000/5,000/6,000/8,000 mm in length by 2,000/2,500/3,000 mm in width. Because the table is a moving axis, that load is part of what the X drive accelerates at 25,000 mm/min (984.3 ipm).
03
Horizontal travel of the headstock in Y is 3,600/4,100/4,600 mm (141.7/161.4/181.1 in). Vertical travel of the ram in Z is 1,550 mm (61.0 in). Rapid feed is 15,000 mm/min (590.6 ipm) in Y and 20,000 mm/min (787.4 ipm) in Z.
04
The spindle runs at 5,000/6,000 rpm on SK 50, BIG+ or HSK100. Power and torque are given for a Heidenhain or Siemens CNC: 43/60 kW or 53/77.9 kW (S1/S6), and 917/1,274 Nm or 1,591/2,338 Nm. The accessory list adds a straight head, an automatic C-axis, a tool changer and a robot.
