Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fermat BUC E that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fermat BUC E is a CNC cylindrical grinder for workpieces up to 3,000 kg (6,614 lb). It sits between the BHM, rated for 1,500 kg (3,307 lb), and the BHC, rated for 4,000 kg. Swing is 630 / 850 mm (24.8 / 33.5 in) and distance between centers 2,000 / 3,000 / 4,000 / 5,000 mm (78.7 / 118.1 / 157.5 / 196.9 in).
The wheel end is taken from the big machine. It uses the Ø 750 x 100 x Ø 305 mm wheel and the 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) motor found on the BHC, so stock removal on large diameters is not held back by the lighter frame. Where it differs is in what is standard: the peripheral speed is 25-45 m/s, with 10-50 m/s optional, the swing stops at 850 mm (33.5 in), and the longest bed is 5,000 mm (196.9 in).
The wheelhead swivels +30° / -10° and is set by hand, with a 1+1 tool count. That range covers shallow tapers and face grinding with an angled wheel. Unlike the BHC and BHM, the BUC E has no B-axis sister model in Fermat's listing, so work that needs automatic wheel changes inside one clamping belongs on the BHCR.
Fermat gives the working accuracy as IT 4. Infeed and table travel run on servomotors and ball screws. Between centers the machine does longitudinal, plunge and combined cycles on cylindrical and conical surfaces, and it grinds bores with a tilting internal spindle. Controls: SINUMERIK 828D sl, 840D sl or ONE, or FANUC.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 3,000 kg (6,614 lb) workpiece weight
- Ø 750 x 100 x Ø 305 mm wheel and 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) motor, as on the BHC
- Center distances from 2,000 mm (78.7 in) to 5,000 mm (196.9 in)
- Swing of 630 / 850 mm (24.8 / 33.5 in)
- IT 4 working accuracy stated by Fermat
Limitations
- No automatic B-axis version of this size in Fermat's listing
- Wheelhead swivel is a narrow +30° / -10°, set manually
- The 10-50 m/s wheel speed range is optional; standard is 25-45 m/s
- Swing ends at 850 mm (33.5 in); the BHC goes to 1,000 mm (39.4 in)

Frequently Asked Questions
01
By workpiece weight it is the 3,000 kg (6,614 lb) machine. The BHM below it takes 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) with a Ø 500 x 80 x Ø 203 mm wheel, and the BHC above it takes 4,000 kg with center distances up to 6,000 mm (236.2 in).
02
A grinding wheel of Ø 750 x 100 x Ø 305 mm on an 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) wheelhead motor. Peripheral speed is 25-45 m/s as standard and 10-50 m/s as an option. Fermat lists a rotary dresser among the equipment the machine can have.
03
Yes. The wheelhead swivels +30° / -10° manually, conical surfaces are ground between centers with longitudinal feed, and a tilting device with a separate spindle is used for internal grinding. A special version adds a C axis for non-circular shapes.
04
SINUMERIK 828D sl, SINUMERIK 840D sl, SINUMERIK ONE or FANUC, according to Fermat. In-process gauging, an axial probe, automatic electric steady rests and a scale on the Z axis are named as further equipment.
