Fermat BHM — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Fermat BHM that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Fermat or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Fermat BHM is a mid-size CNC cylindrical grinder for workpieces up to 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). It swings 500 mm, with 600 mm printed in brackets, and is built with 1,000 / 1,500 / 2,000 / 3,000 mm (39.4 / 59.1 / 78.7 / 118.1 in) between centers.

One figure in its table stands out. The wheelhead turns through +15° / -180°, a far wider range than the +30° / -30° of the larger BHC, although it is still set manually. A range that wide lets the operator turn the head to a second tool, which is how a 1+1 tool count can be used without an automatic B axis. If that change-over has to happen inside the program, the BHMR is the model to look at.

The grinding wheel is Ø 500 x 80 x Ø 203 mm on an 11 kW (14.8 hp) motor, and its peripheral speed is 10-50 m/s as standard. That full range is only an option on Fermat's lighter BUB E, which has the same wheel and motor.

Fermat states a working accuracy of IT 4, with infeed and table travel on servomotors and ball screws. The machine grinds external cylinders, tapers, faces and radii between centers, and bores with a tilting internal spindle. Controls: SINUMERIK 828D sl, 840D sl or ONE, or FANUC.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Wheelhead swivel of +15° / -180°, the widest manual range in Fermat's grinder line
  • 10-50 m/s wheel speed as standard
  • Up to 3,000 mm (118.1 in) between centers
  • 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) workpiece weight
  • IT 4 working accuracy stated by Fermat

Limitations

  • Wheelhead is turned manually; automatic indexing needs the BHMR
  • Swing is 500 mm, with 600 mm only in brackets
  • 11 kW (14.8 hp) wheel motor, against 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) on the BUC E
  • Center distance stops at 3,000 mm (118.1 in)

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the BHM differ from the BHMR?

The BHMR has program-controlled rotation of the grinding headstock, +45° / -225°, and 3 tools. The BHM has a manually turned wheelhead with +15° / -180° of swivel and a 1+1 tool count. Capacity, wheel size and the 11 kW (14.8 hp) motor are the same.

02 What size of workpiece does the BHM take?

Up to 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). Swing diameter is 500 mm, with 600 mm shown in brackets, and the distance between centers is 1,000 / 1,500 / 2,000 / 3,000 mm (39.4 / 59.1 / 78.7 / 118.1 in).

03 What grinding wheel does the BHM use?

A wheel of Ø 500 x 80 x Ø 203 mm driven by an 11 kW (14.8 hp) wheelhead motor. Peripheral speed is 10-50 m/s. Fermat also lists a rotary dresser and electric spindles among the equipment the machine can have.

04 Which CNC controls are available on the BHM?

SINUMERIK 828D sl, SINUMERIK 840D sl, SINUMERIK ONE or FANUC. More complex surfaces are ground with linear and circular interpolation, and a special version adds a C axis for non-circular shapes.
