Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Vollmer VHybrid 260 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Vollmer VHybrid 260 grinds carbide tools and erodes PCD tools on the same five-axis machine. Two spindles sit one above the other at the pivot point of the C axis. The top one grinds; the bottom one grinds or erodes, with a full erosion unit built in. Tools can be up to 150 mm (5.9 in) in outside diameter and up to 360 mm (14.2 in) long, measured from the front edge of the workpiece carrier.
The point of the layout is that a tool with a carbide body and PCD tips never leaves the chuck. Flutes are ground, the PCD edge is eroded, and nothing is re-clamped between the two. The belt spindle runs to 8,500 rpm with 11 kW (14.8 hp) at 100% ED and 23 kW (30.8 hp) peak, so unlike a pure erosion machine it has real grinding power. Each spindle end takes an HSK50 set of up to three grinding wheels or one eroding wheel, 150 mm (5.9 in) at most, or 125 mm (4.9 in) with the supporting device.
Travels are compact: 350 mm (13.8 in) in X, 450 mm (17.7 in) in Y and 500 mm (19.7 in) in Z. The A axis turns 360° at 450 rpm, optionally 1,000 rpm, and C swings from +15° to -200°. Vollmer builds the frame around a polymer concrete wall.
An eight-station changer swaps grinding and eroding wheel sets together with their coolant nozzles. For tools, the HC 4 chain magazine takes up to 158 shank-type tools, and Vollmer also offers an HC 4 plus. Linear scales and a steady rest with automatic stroke are listed under further options. Connected load is approx. 18 kVA and weight approx. 4,900 kg (10,803 lb) net.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Grinding and PCD erosion on one machine, with the bottom spindle carrying a full erosion unit
- Belt spindle with 8,500 rpm, 11 kW (14.8 hp) at 100% ED and 23 kW (30.8 hp) peak
- Automatic replacement of up to eight grinding or eroding wheel sets, complete with coolant nozzles
- HSK50 spindle adaption carrying up to three grinding wheels or one eroding wheel per spindle end
- Tool length up to 360 mm (14.2 in) on a machine of approx. 4,900 kg (10,803 lb) net
Limitations
- Tool diameter is listed up to 150 mm (5.9 in), less than half the 320 mm (12.6 in) of the QXD 250
- Wheel diameter falls to 125 mm (4.9 in) when the supporting device is fitted
- Linear scales and the steady rest appear under options, not in the base description
- Connected load of approx. 18 kVA is roughly double that of the QXD 250, listed at approx. 8.7 kVA / 6.8 kW

Frequently Asked Questions
01
It erodes as well as grinds. Vollmer equips the bottom spindle with an erosion unit driven by its Vpulse EDM generator, while the top spindle grinds. Both sit at the pivot point of the C axis. A carbide tool with PCD edges can therefore be ground and eroded in one machine instead of moving between two.
02
Tools up to 150 mm (5.9 in) in outside diameter and up to 360 mm (14.2 in) long, measured from the front edge of the workpiece carrier without measuring the cooling channel. Vollmer notes that, depending on the tipping, the kinematics also allow larger diameters. Grinding and eroding wheels can be up to 150 mm (5.9 in), or 125 mm (4.9 in) with the supporting device.
03
The belt spindle is rated at 11 kW (14.8 hp) at 100% ED with a peak of 23 kW (30.8 hp), and reaches 8,500 rpm. The spindle adaption is HSK50, with up to three grinding wheels or one eroding wheel per spindle end.
04
Vollmer describes an HC 4 chain magazine for up to 39 HSK 63 tool holders with a tool diameter of 70 mm, or 158 shank-type tools, with a maximum individual tool weight of 5 kg. The HC 4 plus is the larger version. Wheel sets change automatically from an eight-station changer.
05
Vollmer says the VHybrid 260 uses the principles of the VGrind 360 for grinding: two vertically arranged spindles with the wheel at the pivot point of the C axis. The VHybrid 260 adds the erosion unit on the bottom spindle. Its travels are 350 mm (13.8 in) in X, 450 mm (17.7 in) in Y and 500 mm (19.7 in) in Z.
