How much does the Feeler SHM-800L cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Feeler SHM-800L that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Height is the special feature of the Feeler SHM-800L. Its Y travel is 1,600 mm (63.0 in), the tallest in the SHM series by a wide margin, on a horizontal boring and milling machine with an 800 x 800 mm (31.5 x 31.5 in) table. X travel is 1,500 mm (59.1 in) and Z is 1,200 mm (47.2 in).
A tall Y axis serves upright workpieces: machine columns, large pump and compressor casings, press frames, valve bodies stood on end. With the part clamped once on the 3,000 kg (6,614 lb) table and indexed in 1° steps, bores at the top and bottom of a tall face can be machined in line with each other, which is the classic job of a horizontal boring mill.
This model is also the fastest of the three. Rapids are 24/24/24 m/min, against 15/15/15 m/min on the SHM-630L and 10/10/10 m/min on the SHM-800. Feeler's table does not explain the difference.
The spindle head is hydraulically balanced, which matters more as the Y stroke grows, because the head's weight must be carried evenly from bottom to top of the column for the bore position to stay true. Drive is through gears, with a top speed of 4,000 rpm. Feeler says the Y-axis hard ways are coated with Turcite-B and hand-scraped, and gives the dual hard-way span as 570 mm. Tool capacity is 40, or 60 in brackets. The page lists no spindle taper, quill travel or power.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 1,600 mm (63.0 in) of Y travel, the tallest in the SHM series
- 3,000 kg (6,614 lb) table load on an 800 x 800 mm table
- Rapids of 24/24/24 m/min, the fastest SHM model
- Hydraulically balanced, gear-driven spindle head
- Fully supported three-axis configuration on a box-type base, per Feeler
Limitations
- X travel of 1,500 mm is shorter than the 2,000 mm of the SHM-800
- The table indexes in 1° steps only, with no finer increment listed
- 4,000 rpm maximum spindle speed
- Spindle taper, power and torque are not published

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X is 1,500 mm (59.1 in), Y is 1,600 mm (63.0 in) and Z is 1,200 mm (47.2 in). Rapid traverse is 24/24/24 m/min on the three axes.
02
3,000 kg (6,614 lb) on an 800 x 800 mm (31.5 x 31.5 in) table. The indexing angle is listed as 1°/360, so the table positions in whole degrees.
03
The SHM-800 has a longer X axis, 2,000 mm, and a shorter Y axis, 1,100 mm, with rapids of 10/10/10 m/min. Table size, load, Z travel, spindle speed and tool capacity are the same as on the SHM-800L.
04
Feeler says the Y-axis hard ways are coated with Turcite-B wear-resistant material and hand-scraped, and that the dual hard-way span of 570 mm provides support. The guideway type of X and Z is not stated on the page.
