Feeler FTC-640(MC) — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Feeler FTC-640(MC) that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Feeler or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Heavy turning is the brief for the Feeler FTC-640(MC). Feeler states that the FTC-640 is equipped with an A2-11 spindle and two-speed gearbox, delivering high torque for heavy cutting on large workpieces, and the table backs that with a 15 in (381 mm) chuck and a top speed of 2,000 rpm marked ZF gear transmission.

Low speed is deliberate here. A gearbox multiplies motor torque in its low range, which is what a deep cut at large diameter needs, and at ø640 mm (ø25.2 in) of turning diameter the surface speed is ample long before 2,000 rpm. The bore is ø131 mm (ø5.2 in) and bar capacity ø117.5 mm (ø4.6 in), sizes that take heavy-wall tube and large shaft stock.

This is the short bed of the two 640 columns. Maximum turning length is 808 mm (31.8 in) and Z travel 870 mm (34.3 in), with X printed as 320+25 mm. The tailstock steps up to MT-5.

Bracketed values belong to the MC version: ø520 mm of turning diameter, 760 mm of turning length, 260+15 mm of X and 830 mm of Z, on a 12-station VDI60 turret. The plain machine also has 12 stations. As a milling lathe it still swings ø520 mm, far more than the MC versions of the smaller sizes. Torque and motor power are not printed, which is a gap on a machine sold on torque.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • A2-11 spindle with a two-speed ZF gearbox for high torque
  • ø640 mm (ø25.2 in) turning diameter on a 15 in (381 mm) chuck
  • ø117.5 mm (ø4.6 in) bar capacity through a ø131 mm (ø5.2 in) bore
  • MC version keeps ø520 mm (ø20.5 in) of turning diameter
  • 12 stations and an MT-5 tailstock

Limitations

  • 2,000 rpm maximum, too slow for small-diameter work
  • 808 mm (31.8 in) of turning length; longer shafts need the FTC-640L(MC)
  • No torque or power figure published despite the heavy-cutting claim
  • No Y axis or sub-spindle in the 640 size

Best For

Heavy roughing of large forgings and castings Large flanges, hubs and rolls up to ø640 mm Thick-wall tube and bar up to ø117.5 mm Big parts with milled features on the MC version

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What spindle does the Feeler FTC-640(MC) have?

An A2-11 nose with a ø131 mm (ø5.2 in) through hole, driven through a two-speed gearbox. The table gives 2,000 rpm and notes ZF gear transmission. Bar capacity is ø117.5 mm (ø4.6 in).

02 What changes on the MC version?

The bracketed figures apply: turning diameter ø520 mm (ø20.5 in) instead of ø640 mm, turning length 760 mm instead of 808 mm, X travel 260+15 mm and Z travel 830 mm. The turret is listed as 12-VDI60.

03 How does it differ from the FTC-640L(MC)?

In Z travel. The FTC-640L(MC) lists 1,500 (1,240) mm of Z travel where this model has 870 (830) mm. Every other row in the two columns is the same, including the turning length cell.

04 Why is the top speed only 2,000 rpm?

Because the spindle is geared for torque. Feeler describes the FTC-640 as delivering high torque for heavy cutting on large workpieces. The next size down, the FTC-550, runs to 3,300 rpm on an A2-8 nose.
