Feeler FTC-550 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Feeler FTC-550 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Feeler or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Feeler FTC-550 is a 12 in (305 mm) chuck lathe that turns up to ø550 mm (ø21.7 in) over a length of 600 mm (23.6 in). Z travel is the same 600 mm. It stands alone in the table: one length, no milling column, no long bed.

Short and wide is the pattern. Turning diameter and turning length are nearly equal, which points to discs, hubs, flanges, rings and housings rather than shafts. For that work the long X stroke, printed as 275+25 mm, counts for more than Z.

The spindle nose is A2-8, as on the 10 in FTC-430/L/XL, but the bore is larger at ø102 mm (ø4.0 in) and bar capacity is ø91 mm (ø3.6 in). Top speed is 3,300 rpm, and no gearbox is mentioned. The geared spindle starts one size up, where the FTC-640(MC) is listed at 2,000 rpm with ZF gear transmission.

Turret stations are printed as 8(12) and the tailstock is MT-4. An MT-4 centre is modest for a machine of this swing, another sign that the maker expects chuck work. Power and torque are not in the series table, and on a lathe meant for large diameters they are the figures to ask for first.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • ø550 mm (ø21.7 in) maximum turning diameter on a 12 in (305 mm) chuck
  • ø91 mm (ø3.6 in) bar capacity through a ø102 mm (ø4.0 in) bore
  • 3,300 rpm, well above the 2,000 rpm of the geared FTC-640(MC)
  • Long X stroke, printed as 275+25 mm
  • Turret listed as 8(12): eight stations, or twelve as the alternative

Limitations

  • Only 600 mm (23.6 in) of turning length and no long-bed version
  • No driven-tool version listed in this size
  • MT-4 tailstock, where the FTC-640(MC) steps up to MT-5
  • Spindle power and torque are not published

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size work does the Feeler FTC-550 take?

Up to ø550 mm (ø21.7 in) in diameter and 600 mm (23.6 in) in length. The standard chuck is 12 in (305 mm) and bar up to ø91 mm (ø3.6 in) passes through the ø102 mm spindle bore.

02 Is there a milling or long-bed version?

None is listed. The FTC-550 has a single column in the series table with empty Y-axis and E-axis cells. The FTC-450L/(MC) below it and the FTC-640(MC) above it both show milling variants in brackets.

03 How fast is the spindle?

3,300 rpm on an A2-8 nose. The 10 in FTC-430/L/XL runs slightly faster at 3,500 rpm, and the 15 in FTC-640(MC) is far slower at 2,000 rpm through a ZF gear transmission.

04 How many tools does the turret hold?

Eight, with twelve as the bracketed alternative: the row is printed as 8(12). No tooling interface or shank size is given, so confirm the boring bar and square shank sizes for the turret you order.
