Overview

The Emco Maxxturn 95 is a shaft lathe. It has 1,430 mm (56.3 in) between centres, 1,360 mm (53.5 in) of Z travel, an automatic tailstock and a spindle that passes 95 mm (3.7 in) bar, and Emco lists a steady rest for it. There is no counter spindle in the table: the machine is built to turn long parts between a chuck and a centre.

Two spindle drives are listed side by side. Speed reads 3500 / 2500 rpm, power 33/42 kW and torque 800/1040 Nm, so the choice is between a faster spindle and a slower one with more torque, both on an A2-8 nose. The same pairing runs through the turret rows. Tooling is VDI 40 / BMT55P; the driven-tool speed is 4000 / 12000 rpm, power 8 / 10 kW and torque 35 / 30 Nm. The VDI 40 side is the lower-speed drive and the BMT55P side the high-speed one.

Y travel is +80/-60 mm, long for a lathe of this size, and it is integrated directly into the machine. Together with 12 driven stations and a C axis it lets keyways, flats and bolt circles be finished along the length of a shaft without moving the part to a mill.

The tailstock travels 1,050 mm (41.3 in) and takes an MK4 centre. Maximum turning diameter is 500 mm (19.7 in) under a 700 mm (27.6 in) swing. At 6,511 x 2,249 x 2,150 mm (256.3 x 88.5 x 84.6 in) the machine is long and fairly narrow, and it weighs 11,000 kg (24,250 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,430 mm (56.3 in) between centres with an automatic tailstock travelling 1,050 mm (41.3 in)
  • Spindle torque of 800/1040 Nm depending on the drive chosen
  • Y axis with +80/-60 mm of travel, integrated into the machine
  • 12 driven stations on a VDI 40 / BMT55P turret
  • Steady rest offered for shaft machining

Limitations

  • No counter spindle is listed, so second-end work means turning the part round
  • The higher-torque spindle is limited to the lower of the two speeds in 3500 / 2500 rpm
  • Needs a long floor space: 6,511 x 2,249 x 2,150 mm (256.3 x 88.5 x 84.6 in)
  • The table gives one bed length; longer work belongs on the Universalturn 90 or Maxxturn 110

Best For

Shafts up to 1,430 mm (56.3 in) between centres Bar work up to 95 mm (3.7 in) Long parts with milled keyways and cross features Heavy roughing on an A2-8 spindle

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How long a part can the Maxxturn 95 turn?

The distance between centres is 1,430 mm (56.3 in) and Z travel is 1,360 mm (53.5 in). The automatic tailstock travels 1,050 mm (41.3 in). Emco also lists a steady rest, which matters for slender shafts at these lengths.

02 What spindle options does the Maxxturn 95 have?

The table lists two: speed 3500 / 2500 rpm, power 33/42 kW, torque 800/1040 Nm. The first value in each pair belongs to the faster drive and the second to the higher-torque drive. Both use an A2-8 spindle nose.

03 What is the difference between the VDI 40 and BMT55P turret?

Both carry 12 tools and both can drive all 12. The table pairs them as 4000 / 12000 rpm, 8 / 10 kW and 35 / 30 Nm: the VDI 40 turret is the lower-speed drive, the BMT55P the high-speed one. Holders are not interchangeable between the two interfaces.

04 How does the Maxxturn 95 differ from the Maxxturn 110?

The Maxxturn 110 is the larger machine, with a 680 mm (26.8 in) turning diameter, an A2-11 spindle nose and three bed lengths. The Maxxturn 95 turns 500 mm (19.7 in) on an A2-8 nose and weighs 11,000 kg (24,250 lb).
