Overview
The Hardinge Conquest T65 is the largest-bore model in Hardinge's Conquest T series of precision CNC turning centers, featuring a 65 mm (2.56 in) bar capacity that extends the proven Conquest T platform into mid-range production turning. The T65 was introduced to serve shops that had outgrown the T42 and T51 bar capacities but wanted to remain within the Hardinge precision ecosystem rather than moving to a general-purpose production lathe.
The main spindle delivers 18.5 kW (25 HP) continuous power through an A2-6 spindle nose at speeds up to 4,500 RPM, with a maximum torque of 250 Nm (184 ft-lb). The Conquest T65's spindle features Hardinge's proprietary bearing preload system with thermal compensation, maintaining concentricity within sub-5-micron specifications. The collet-ready spindle accepts collets for bar stock up to 65mm, and a 250 mm (10 in) hydraulic chuck handles larger-diameter chuck work.
X-axis travel is 210 mm (8.27 in) and Z-axis travel is 500 mm (19.69 in) on hardened and ground box ways. The 12-station VDI turret supports live tooling with C-axis capability for cross-drilling, milling, and threading. A hydraulic programmable tailstock provides support for longer workpieces. The box way construction provides the rigidity and vibration damping that Hardinge considers essential for maintaining precision at larger turning diameters.
The Conquest T65 runs on the Fanuc 0i-TF Plus control and weighs approximately 4,200 kg (9,259 lb). New machines typically price between $110,000 and $160,000. The T65 competes with the Okuma LB3000 EX II, Haas ST-25Y, and Mazak Quick Turn 250 in the 65mm bar precision turning segment.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 65mm bar capacity significantly expands the range of parts that can be run from bar on a Hardinge precision platform compared to the T42 and T51
- 18.5 kW spindle with 250 Nm torque provides strong roughing capability on larger-diameter bar stock and chuck work
- Proven Conquest T platform with decades of production history provides known reliability, documented maintenance procedures, and strong used market presence
- Hardened and ground box ways deliver superior vibration damping at the larger turning diameters where chatter is more common
- Collet-ready spindle for 65mm bar provides measurably better workholding accuracy than standard 3-jaw chucks at this bar capacity
- Hydraulic programmable tailstock enables supported turning of longer workpieces for versatile part processing
Limitations
- 4,500 RPM maximum spindle speed is lower than smaller Conquest T models, limiting high-speed finishing on smaller diameters
- 500mm Z-axis travel is moderate; long-shaft applications require a long-bed variant or different platform
- The Conquest T series is an older-generation platform; the GS-65 offers more current technology for new purchases
- Box way rapid traverse is slower than linear guideway competitors, adding non-cutting time in high-volume production cycles

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New Hardinge Conquest T65 machines price between $110,000 and $160,000 depending on configuration. Used T65 units are available on the secondary market, with 2010-2020 machines typically trading between $50,000 and $90,000. Options including live tooling, C-axis, bar feeder, and tailstock configurations affect both new and used pricing.
02
The GS-65 is Hardinge's newer-generation platform with updated spindle technology, improved thermal management, and the latest Fanuc controls. Both share the 65mm bar capacity and Hardinge precision heritage. The GS-65 is recommended for new purchases. The Conquest T65 offers excellent value on the used market for budget-conscious precision shops.
03
Sub-spindle configurations for the Conquest T65 are less common than for the T42SP and T51 SP models. At the 65mm bar capacity, sub-spindle turning is typically addressed by the GS-250 platform or competing multi-tasking machines. Check with Hardinge or your dealer for current T65 sub-spindle availability.
04
The jump from 51mm to 65mm bar capacity opens up a significantly wider range of parts that can be produced from bar stock on a Hardinge precision platform. Many hydraulic fittings, aerospace connectors, and industrial components fall in the 2-2.5 inch range. Running these from bar on a Hardinge eliminates secondary operations and maintains collet-level concentricity.
