Overview

The Emco Emcomill 800 is a 3-axis vertical machining centre with 800 mm (31.5 in) of X travel and 550 mm (21.7 in) each in Y and Z. It has a 1000 x 550 mm table rated for 600 kg (1,323 lb), a 30-tool changer and a direct-drive spindle with an SK40 taper.

The spindle covers 50 – 12000 rpm and is rated 13.6 kW (S6) and 95 Nm (S6). Direct drive keeps it smooth at the top of the range, and the ratings place the machine in general-purpose territory: aluminium at speed, steel with sensible cutters, drilling and tapping throughout. It is not a heavy roughing spindle.

What stands out is the axis performance. Rapids are 42/42/42 m/min with acceleration of 5 m/s2, quicker than the larger Emcomill 1100, and feed force is 7,000 N (1,574 lbf). On parts with many short moves and tool changes of 2.5 s (tool to tool), that shortens the cycle more than spindle power would.

The magazine takes tools up to 76 mm (3.0 in) in diameter, or 150 mm (5.9 in) with the neighbouring station empty, 300 mm (11.8 in) long and 8 kg (18 lb) in weight. The control is the Siemens 828D with ShopMill on a 15-inch monitor. Installation needs 2600 x 2600 mm (W x D, without chip conveyor, with tank), 30 kVA and 6 bar of compressed air; the basic machine weighs 5,400 kg (11,905 lb).
