Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Emco S45 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Emco S45 is a two-axis CNC lathe with a short bed: 310 mm (12.2 in) of Z travel, 160 mm (6.3 in) of X and a 45 mm (1.8 in) bar passage. Emco sells it as a plain production lathe, and the table reflects that. There is one spindle, one 12-station turret, and no Y travel or counter spindle row.
The spindle turns at up to 6,300 rpm with 11 kW (14.8 hp) and 70 Nm (51.6 lb-ft). Maximum turning diameter is 170 mm (6.7 in), well inside the 430 mm (16.9 in) swing, so the limit comes from the turret and slide, not from the bed. For bar parts and small chuck work that is rarely a constraint. For flanges it is.
Six of the turret stations can be driven, at 5,000 rpm, 4 kW (5.4 hp) and 16 Nm (11.8 lb-ft). Those are the same driven-tool ratings the Emcoturn E45 lists, on a machine with less Z travel and fewer configuration choices. A buyer choosing between the two is really deciding whether Y travel and a counter spindle will ever be needed.
The S45 weighs 3,300 kg (7,275 lb) and measures 2,250 x 1,675 x 1,940 mm (88.6 x 65.9 x 76.4 in). Emco names the Sinumerik 828D with ShopTurn or the Fanuc Oi TD with ManualGuide i as controls, both conversational systems aimed at programming at the machine.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 6,300 rpm spindle with 11 kW (14.8 hp) and 70 Nm (51.6 lb-ft)
- 6 driven stations in a 12-station turret, rated 4 kW (5.4 hp) and 16 Nm (11.8 lb-ft)
- Compact: 2,250 x 1,675 x 1,940 mm (88.6 x 65.9 x 76.4 in), 3,300 kg (7,275 lb)
- Sinumerik 828D with ShopTurn or Fanuc Oi TD with ManualGuide i for shop-floor programming
Limitations
- Z travel is 310 mm (12.2 in), so long shafts are out
- Maximum turning diameter is 170 mm (6.7 in) despite the 430 mm (16.9 in) swing
- The table lists no Y axis and no counter spindle

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Bar up to 45 mm (1.8 in), turning diameters up to 170 mm (6.7 in) and lengths within 310 mm (12.2 in) of Z travel. The distance between centres is 631 mm (24.8 in) and the swing over the bed is 430 mm (16.9 in).
02
Yes. 6 of the 12 turret stations can be driven, at up to 5,000 rpm with 4 kW (5.4 hp) and 16 Nm (11.8 lb-ft). The table does not list a Y axis, so milling is limited to what a C axis and radial or axial tools can reach on centre.
03
The S65 is the larger machine: a 65 mm (2.6 in) bar passage, 610 mm (24.0 in) of Z travel, 18 kW (24.1 hp) and 12 driven stations. The S45 runs faster, 6,300 rpm against the 4,200 rpm of the S65, and weighs 3,300 kg (7,275 lb).
04
Emco names the Sinumerik 828D or the Fanuc Oi TD, with ShopTurn and ManualGuide i as the respective conversational programming systems. Check which one a quoted machine carries, since programs and operator training do not carry over between them.
