Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Emco Emcoturn E65 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
With 22 kW (29.5 hp) and 305 Nm (225.0 lb-ft) at the main spindle, the Emco Emcoturn E65 is the heavy end of the Emcoturn E range: a universal turning centre for bar listed as ø 65 (95) mm and chuck parts up to 500 mm (19.7 in) in diameter. The torque figure is what separates it from its smaller siblings. It allows real roughing in steel at diameters where the smaller machines would be finishing.
Travels are 210 mm (8.3 in) in X and 610 mm (24.0 in) in Z, with 682 mm (26.9 in) between centres. A Y axis of +/-40 mm is part of the MY and SMY versions. Unlike the Emcoturn E45, every one of the 12 turret stations can be driven, at up to 5,000 rpm with 6.7 kW (9.0 hp) and 25 Nm (18.4 lb-ft), so milling operations do not compete for a handful of live positions.
Emco lists two turret layouts: an axial turret for the tailstock version and a radial turret for the counter spindle version. The tailstock is fully automatic and travels 500 mm (19.7 in). The counter spindle, where fitted, matches the main spindle nose at A2-6 and delivers 16.5 kW (22.1 hp) and 130 Nm (95.9 lb-ft), enough for proper second-side turning.
Two things to settle before ordering. The main spindle speed is given as 5000 (3500) rpm, and the lower figure goes with the larger bar passage. The turret interface is VDI 30 (40), and holders are not interchangeable between the two sizes. Controls named for the machine are Sinumerik 828D, Heidenhain CNC PILOT 640 and Fanuc Oi TF. The machine weighs 6,500 kg (14,330 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 305 Nm (225.0 lb-ft) of main spindle torque from a 22 kW (29.5 hp) drive on an A2-6 nose
- All 12 turret stations can be driven: 5,000 rpm, 6.7 kW (9.0 hp), 25 Nm (18.4 lb-ft)
- Counter spindle with the same A2-6 nose as the main spindle and 16.5 kW (22.1 hp)
- Bar passage listed as ø 65 (95) mm
- Fully automatic tailstock with 500 mm (19.7 in) of travel on the tailstock versions
- Three control makes offered: Siemens, Fanuc and Heidenhain
Limitations
- Main spindle speed drops from 5000 to 3500 rpm with the larger bar passage
- Y travel is +/-40 mm, limited for off-centre milling on a 500 mm (19.7 in) part
- VDI 30 and VDI 40 holders do not interchange, so the turret size has to match existing tooling
- At 6,500 kg (14,330 lb) and 3,335 x 2,315 x 2,450 mm (131.3 x 91.1 x 96.5 in) it needs noticeably more floor than the Emcoturn E45

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The base Emcoturn E65 is for stationary tools with a tailstock. The MY version has driven tools, C axis, Y axis and tailstock. The SM has a counter spindle, driven tools and C axis, and the SMY adds the Y axis to that. Emco fits an axial turret on tailstock machines and a radial turret on counter spindle machines.
02
The bar diameter row reads ø 65 (95) mm. The standard passage is 65 mm; the bracketed 95 mm is the larger bore, and with it the main spindle speed in the table falls to the bracketed 3500 rpm.
03
Yes, in the SM and SMY versions. The counter spindle runs to 5,000 rpm with 16.5 kW (22.1 hp) and 130 Nm (95.9 lb-ft) on an A2-6 nose, the same nose size as the main spindle, so the same chucks fit both ends.
04
The Emcoturn E45 has a 13 kW (17.4 hp) main spindle, 510 mm (20.1 in) of Z travel and 6 driven stations. The E65 has 22 kW (29.5 hp), 610 mm (24.0 in) of Z and 12 driven stations, and at 6,500 kg (14,330 lb) it is well above the Emcoturn E45, which weighs 4,000 kg (8,818 lb).
