How much does the Jainnher S40 CNC Cylindrical Roll Grinder cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Jainnher S40 CNC Cylindrical Roll Grinder that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Jainnher S40 is the smallest type in Jainnher's CNC cylindrical roll grinding machine range, for rolls up to 400 mm (15.7 in) in diameter and 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). It is offered with a distance between centers of 1.5, 2, 3 or 4 m (4.9, 6.6, 9.8 or 13.1 ft).
Jainnher builds its roll grinders in four classes, S, M, L and H, and the S40 is the only one with a wheel head of its own. The wheel is Ø500 x 50 x Ø152 mm and runs from 300 to 1,800 rpm on a 15 HP (11.2 kW) motor. Every larger type uses a Ø910 wheel at lower speed. In practice that makes the S40 closer to a long cylindrical grinder than to a mill roll grinder: it suits printing and coating rolls, rubber-covered rolls, long shafts and small work rolls.
The wheel head carriage and the table both run on what Jainnher calls a hydrostatic and dynamic lubrication system, intended to give smooth motion with low friction between base and table. Cross feed is 0.001 mm per pulse at up to 1,000 mm/min. The table traverses at 25 to 3,000 mm/min, half the top speed of the bigger types.
The headstock is driven by a variable frequency motor at 10 to 100 rpm and carries an MT#5 center. A CNC controller runs the grinding sequence from stored programs and generates crown profiles, including sine, cosine and CVC curves. Coolant capacity is 280 L.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Wheel speed range of 300 to 1,800 rpm, the widest in Jainnher's roll grinder range
- Four bed lengths, from 1.5 to 4 m (4.9 to 13.1 ft) between centers
- Crown grinding by program, with sine, cosine, CVC and combined arc curves
- 0.001 mm cross feed per pulse
- Hydrostatic and dynamic lubrication on both the wheel head carriage and the table
Limitations
- Workpiece weight is limited to 1,500 kg (3,307 lb)
- The wheel is 50 mm wide, narrow for traversing long rolls quickly
- Table traverse tops out at 3,000 mm/min, against 6,000 mm/min on the M60
- Tailstock is moved by hand; a rotating tailstock is an option

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Diameters from 5 to 400 mm (0.2 to 15.7 in), with a maximum swing over the table of 400 mm (15.7 in), and a maximum workpiece weight of 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). The distance between centers is 1.5, 2, 3 or 4 m (4.9, 6.6, 9.8 or 13.1 ft) depending on the bed ordered.
02
The M60 swings 600 mm (23.6 in), carries 4,000 kg (8,818 lb) and uses a Ø910 wheel at 300 to 1,200 rpm with a 20 HP (14.9 kW) motor. The S40 uses a Ø500 x 50 x Ø152 mm wheel at 300 to 1,800 rpm with a 15 HP (11.2 kW) motor and comes in shorter beds.
03
Yes. Jainnher says crown grinding is done by the CNC, with base arc, sine, cosine, CVC and combined arc curves available and the camber value assigned in the program. A special curve grinding program is also listed among the optional accessories.
04
Jainnher's list has a grinding wheel, two flanges, a dresser, a flange puller, a gage, a splash guard, a filter, a center, a tool box, two supports, sheet-metal covers and a static balance device with arbor. A roll caliper, auto balancing system and live center are optional.
