Drake GS:DS-1000 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Drake GS:DS-1000 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Drake or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Drake GS:DS-1000 is the long-bed version of Drake's dual spindle grinder, with 1,000 mm (39.4 in) between centers. Like the GS:DS it carries an external and an internal grinding spindle and 5 CNC axes, and it weighs 19,000 kg (41,887 lb).

The length is for shaft-type parts that also carry an internal feature, or for long external forms that must be ground in the same setup as a bore. The GS:DS offers 360 mm (14.2 in). Swing over the table is 580 mm (22.8 in) on the external side and 580 mm (22.8 in) on the internal side.

Drake's table for this model lists the external wheel spindle at 12 kW (16.1 hp) and 8,000 rpm, a single power figure where the GS:DS row gives two. External wheels are ≤400 mm (15.7 in) in outside diameter, 10-25 mm (0.4-1.0 in); optional ≤60 mm (2.4 in) wide, on a 160 mm (6.3 in) bore. Internal wheels are ≤100 mm (3.9 in) in outside diameter and 5-20 mm (0.2-0.8 in) wide.

Helix ranges match the shorter machine: ±30° from horizontal on the external spindle and +25° / -30° from horizontal on the internal one. The page gives no overall dimensions or workholding height for this model, so the layout has to come from Drake. Supply is 200-600 V at 45 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,000 mm (39.4 in) between centers on a dual spindle machine
  • External and internal grinding in one fixture setup with 5 CNC axes
  • 580 mm (22.8 in) of swing on the external side
  • Dresser rolls of 115-152 mm (4.5-6.0 in) diameter on both sides
  • Electrical requirement of 45 kVA, the same as the GS:DS

Limitations

  • Weighs 19,000 kg (41,887 lb), against 7,300 kg (16,093 lb) for the GS:DS
  • No overall dimensions or workholding height are published for this model
  • External wheel spindle is listed at 12 kW (16.1 hp) only
  • Internal spindle power and speed are not stated

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How long is the GS:DS-1000 between centers?

Drake lists 1,000 mm (39.4 in). That applies to the external grinding spindle; the table gives no length figure for the internal side.

02 What is the difference between the GS:DS-1000 and the GS:DS?

Length and mass. The GS:DS has 360 mm (14.2 in) between centers and weighs 7,300 kg (16,093 lb); the GS:DS-1000 has 1,000 mm (39.4 in) and weighs 19,000 kg (41,887 lb). Internal swing is 580 mm (22.8 in) here and 560 mm (22.0 in) on the GS:DS.

03 What wheels does the GS:DS-1000 use?

External wheels are ≤400 mm (15.7 in) in outside diameter with a 160 mm (6.3 in) bore, at 8,000 rpm. Internal wheels are ≤100 mm (3.9 in) in outside diameter and 5-20 mm (0.2-0.8 in) wide. Both sides use diamond dresser rolls up to 32 mm (1.3 in) wide.

04 What supply does it need, and how big is it?

The electrical requirement is 45 kVA on a 200-600 V supply, and approximate weight is 19,000 kg (41,887 lb). Drake's page does not give overall dimensions for this model, so ask for a layout drawing early.
