Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Drake GS:TE240-360 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Drake GS:TE240-360 is a CNC external thread grinder with 4 axes, for parts up to 240 mm (9.4 in) in diameter and 360 mm (14.2 in) between centers. It is the smallest GS:TE machine on the range's full-size wheel package: wheels of ≤400 mm (15.7 in) outside diameter on a 160 mm (6.3 in) bore, on a wheel spindle that Drake lists as 12 kW / 16 kW (16.1 hp / 21.5 hp) at 8,000 rpm.
Two power figures share that row, and the brochure does not say which is fitted as standard. Settle it with Drake once the process is defined. Wheel width is 10-25 mm (0.4-1.0 in); optional ≤60 mm (2.4 in). The wider wheel matters for multi-rib grinding of taps and gages, where one plunge forms several threads.
Against the GS:TE240-330MH, this machine has one more CNC axis and takes dresser rolls of 115-152 mm (4.5-6.0 in), where the GS:TE240-330MH is listed with a 115 mm (4.5 in) roll. The trade is workhead speed: up to 300 rpm continuous here, up to 800 rpm continuous on the GS:TE240-330MH.
Drake gives <0.004 mm (<0.00016 in) over length of travel for linear positioning accuracy and <0.002 mm (<0.00008 in) for repeatability. Rapid return is up to 40 m/min (1,575 ipm), which shortens the non-grinding part of a multi-pass cycle. The machine weighs 7,000 kg (15,432 lb) on a footprint of 2.2 m W x 2.7 m D (86.6 in x 106.3 in), with the work held 1.1 m (43.3 in) above the floor. Supply is 200-600 V at 30-45 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Full-size wheel package on a short machine: ≤400 mm (15.7 in) outside diameter, 160 mm (6.3 in) bore, 8,000 rpm
- Linear positioning accuracy of <0.004 mm (<0.00016 in) over length of travel and repeatability of <0.002 mm (<0.00008 in)
- 4 CNC axes, one more than the GS:TE240-330MH
- Dresser rolls of 115-152 mm (4.5-6.0 in), up to 32 mm (1.3 in) wide
- Listed for any supply in the 200-600 V band, at 30-45 kVA
Limitations
- Length between centers is 360 mm (14.2 in); the GS:TE400-750 offers 750 mm (29.5 in)
- Workhead speed is up to 300 rpm continuous, below the up to 800 rpm continuous of the GS:TE240-330MH
- Lead and lead angle are listed only as various, so the helix range has to be confirmed for the part
- The brochure does not say which of the two wheel spindle powers is standard

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Drake lists a maximum part diameter of 240 mm (9.4 in) and a length between centers of 360 mm (14.2 in). The workhead spindle nose is A2-6 and workhead speed is up to 300 rpm continuous.
02
The brochure row reads 12 kW / 16 kW (16.1 hp / 21.5 hp), at 8,000 rpm and a surface speed of up to 120 m/sec. It does not say which power is standard and which is the upgrade, so ask Drake which motor is quoted for your part.
03
The GS:TE240-330MH is the manual helix machine with 3 CNC axes, 330 mm (13.0 in) between centers and a 380-480 V supply. The GS:TE240-360 has 4 CNC axes, slightly more length and is listed for 200-600 V. Its workhead is slower, at up to 300 rpm continuous.
04
Linear positioning accuracy is <0.004 mm (<0.00016 in) over length of travel and linear positioning repeatability is <0.002 mm (<0.00008 in). Those are axis figures, not a guarantee of lead or pitch diameter on a given part; Drake delivers each machine with a grinding process developed for the customer's parts.
05
The machine weighs 7,000 kg (15,432 lb) and measures 2.2 m W x 2.7 m D (86.6 in x 106.3 in). Workholding height is 1.1 m (43.3 in) above the floor. Electrical supply is 200-600 V at 30-45 kVA. The brochure does not list coolant requirements for this model.
