Overview
The Drake GS:TI280 is the smallest of Drake's 4-axis CNC internal thread grinders, with 280 mm (11.0 in) of swing over the table and a maximum internal grind length of 190 mm (7.5 in). Drake names ball nuts, thread gages and power steering components as the typical work.
Internal wheels are small by necessity. The standard range is ≤100 mm (3.9 in) in outside diameter and 5-20 mm (0.2-0.8 in) wide, and Drake lists wheel spindle power and speed as various because the spindle is matched to the bore. A small wheel wears quickly, so dressing is frequent; the dresser takes diamond rolls of 115-152 mm (4.5-6.0 in) diameter, up to 32 mm (1.3 in) wide.
The workhead has an A2-8 nose and turns at up to 300 rpm continuous. Compared with the GS:TI240MH, which has 3 CNC axes and a manual helix, this machine sets the helix under CNC and is listed for a 200-600 V supply.
The brochure's standard list includes a high-precision workhead, wheel helix, closed-loop precision feedback, and the SmartForm and TouchDress functions. A part probe and automation are upgrades.
