Price estimate
We do not have a price for the DMS Yellowstone5 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The DMS Yellowstone5 is a large-format 5-axis overhead gantry machine, which the DMS data sheet also calls a U-frame gantry, with a moving gantry on a stress-relieved all-steel frame. All models have 48 in (1,219 mm) of Z, with up to 72 in (1,829 mm) available, and the stroke table lists X from 5 ft to 20 ft and Y from 5 ft to 100 ft.
Loading is through the front, where the doors slide open and closed so large material can be brought in. DMS can build the machine with a universal fixture table, which it says performs multiple tasks without stopping production, and lists a stand alone table as a customizable feature.
No other DMS 5-axis model starts as high on spindle power. The standard Hiteco electrospindle is 16 hp / 12 kW, the range is 12-20 kW and the maximum is 20 kW at 24,000 rpm, on any of six head units from the Tilt K Plus to the DMS Cast Yokes. B is 115° or 130°, and C is 363° either way on a DMS head or 320° on a Hiteco head. Continuous C rotation, an automatic tool changer, a tool height sensor and an upgrade to 45 mm rails are customizable features.
Sizes combine a bridge stroke of 5, 8, 10, 12 or 15 ft with a depth in multiples of 5 ft up to 100 ft. Average speed over the three linear axes is 1,333 in/min (33.9 m/min) under a Fagor 8065/8070 Power Controller, and the rack tool changer is listed at 10 / 12 / 18 tools. Services are 460-480 V 3-phase and 10 CFM of air at 95 PSI. The product page and data sheet name different transmission types for this model, so ask DMS which drive a given size uses.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Standard Hiteco electrospindle of 16 hp / 12 kW, with a range of 12-20 kW at up to 24,000 rpm
- 48 in (1,219 mm) of Z on all models, with up to 72 in (1,829 mm) available
- Front doors slide open for loading large materials into the U-frame
- Y stroke up to 100 ft and X up to 20 ft
- Rack tool changer listed at 10 / 12 / 18 tools
- All-steel frame, stress relieved and welded in-house
Limitations
- Lubrication is manual as standard; automatic lubrication is a customizable feature
- The automatic tool changer, tool height sensor and continuous C rotation are listed as customizable features, not standard ones
- The smallest listed spindle is 12 kW, so there is no light, low-power configuration
- Needs 460-480 V 3-phase power, a narrower band than the 380-480 V of the Denali5

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The data sheet lists a Z axis stroke of 48 in (1,219 mm) and says all models have 48 in of Z. Up to 72 in (1,829 mm) of Z stroke is available as a customizable feature. The Mammoth5, the other machine with a Y range to 100 ft, lists 48 in or 72 in.
02
The stroke table lists X, the bridge axis, from 5 ft to 20 ft and Y from 5 ft to 100 ft. Bridge strokes of 5, 8, 10, 12 and 15 ft are listed, with depth in multiples of 5 ft up to 100 ft plus 12 ft and 22 ft. The data sheet also names a 12 ft by 25 ft work space among the standard features.
03
A Hiteco electrospindle of 16 hp / 12 kW is standard. The listed spindle range is 12-20 kW with a maximum of 20 kW and 24,000 rpm, and the head units are the Tilt K Plus, Tilt H Plus, Tilt V, Tilt W, DMS Standard Yoke and DMS Cast Yokes.
04
DMS lists 460-480 V, 3-phase power and compressed air at 10 CFM and 95 PSI. Lubrication is manual on the standard machine, with automatic lubrication available as a customizable feature. Multiple vacuum pump options are also offered.
05
Not as standard. The data sheet gives the C axis a rotation of 363 degrees in each direction and lists continuous C axis rotation as a customizable feature. With continuous C the rotary encoders are incremental; with a Hiteco head, C is limited to 320° each way.
