How much does the DMS Glacier5 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the DMS Glacier5 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The DMS Glacier5 is a fully enclosed 5-axis machine with 72 in (1,829 mm) of Z stroke, the deepest fixed Z that DMS lists for an enclosed model. The bridge axis, X, is offered from 5 ft to 12 ft and Y from 5 ft to 10 ft. DMS names carbon fiber and thermoforming as its industries, which is trimming and drilling work that makes abrasive dust.
Containment explains the architecture. Carbon dust is conductive and hard on a shop, and an enclosure lets extraction deal with it at the machine. The tall Z matters for the same parts: deep-draw thermoformed shells and tall lay-up tools need the head to come down the side of the work, not only over the top.
Head choice is broad. Six units are listed, the Tilt K Plus, Tilt H Plus, Tilt V and Tilt W plus the DMS Standard Yoke and DMS Cast Yokes, covering spindles of 8-20 kW at up to 24,000 rpm. B tilts 115° or 130°. C travel depends on the head: 363° either way on a DMS head, with continuous rotation as an option, or 320° on a Hiteco head.
The transmission is mixed. Bridges up to 14 ft (4,267 mm) run on a spinning ball nut and recirculating ball screw, while the gantry axis is always rack and pinion. Motor encoders are absolute, except that the rotaries are incremental when continuous C is fitted, and scales are an option. Average speed across the three linear axes is 1,333 in/min (33.9 m/min). Tools are held in a rack or carousel, 10 / 12 at most, under a Fagor HMI and NC.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Fully enclosed 5-axis architecture for dust-producing carbon fiber and thermoforming work
- 72 in (1,829 mm) of Z stroke for tall moulds and deep-draw parts
- Six head units, from the Tilt K Plus to DMS Cast Yokes, with spindles of 8-20 kW
- Ball-screw bridge drive on bridges up to 14 ft (4,267 mm), with scales available as an option
- C axis of 363° each way on a DMS head, with continuous rotation optional
Limitations
- Depth is limited to 4, 5 or 6 ft on the size list, so the enclosed envelope is wide and shallow
- The tool changer maximum is 10 / 12 tools; the Teton5 lists 12 / 24
- With the continuous C option the rotary axes use incremental encoders instead of absolute ones
- A Hiteco head limits C rotation to 320° each way
- The smallest listed spindle is 8 kW, more than light trimming strictly needs

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The stroke table lists X, the bridge axis, from 5 ft to 12 ft, Y from 5 ft to 10 ft and Z at 72 in (1,829 mm). The size list gives bridge lengths of 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 or 12 ft and depths of 4, 5 or 6 ft. Since the Y stroke and the depth list do not match, ask DMS which applies to the size you need.
02
DMS lists the Tilt K Plus, Tilt H Plus, Tilt V, Tilt W, DMS Standard Yoke and DMS Cast Yokes. Spindle power ranges from 8 to 20 kW with a maximum speed of 24,000 rpm. The B axis is (+/-) 115° / 130°. C is (+/-) 363° on a DMS head, optionally continuous, and (+/-) 320° on a Hiteco head.
03
Both. The bridge uses a spinning ball nut and recirculating ball screw on bridges up to 14 ft (4,267 mm), and the gantry axis is always rack and pinion. Scales are available as an option on top of the absolute motor encoders.

They share the enclosed Glacier platform. The Glacier5 adds the B and C axes, lists 72 in (1,829 mm) of Z where the Glacier3 has 30 in (762 mm), and takes spindles up to 20 kW. The Glacier3 is the 3-axis version, with spindles up to 18 kW S1 and a Y range of 3 ft to 6 ft.
