PAMA Speedmat VM — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the PAMA Speedmat VM that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from PAMA or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The PAMA Speedmat VM is the compact one in the catalogue: a five-axis vertical machining centre with a fixed portal, a crossrail that moves vertically and a table that travels beneath it. PAMA builds three sizes, for maximum workpiece diameters of 1500 mm, 2000 mm and 3000 mm.

By the standards of this maker those are small parts. Table or pallet size is 1,000 x 1,000 - 2,000 x 2,000 mm and the load is up to 12,000 kg. Travels are 1,700 - 2,700 mm in X, 1,500 - 2,700 mm in Y and 1,300 - 1,700 mm in Z, where Z is the stroke of the crossrail. There is no ram hanging below the beam, so the distance from guideway to tool tip stays short and constant.

This is the only PAMA model whose sheet states an acceleration: 3 m/s² on X, Y and Z, with rapids up to 50,000 mm/min. The B axis turns at up to 10 rpm.

Spindle ratings are given in S6-40% duty, not S1 as on the larger machines, so they are not directly comparable. Both heads list 84 / 85 kW and 901 / 450 Nm at 8,000 / 12,500 rpm: a high torque and a high-speed electrospindle in each. The HVA head has its continuous axis inclined at 45°, with 4,000 Nm (2,950 lb-ft) of contouring torque. The A head is a tilting fork with 5,000 Nm (3,688 lb-ft) contouring and 10,000 Nm (7,376 lb-ft) clamped.

PAMA says the table combines rolling bearings with hydrostatic support, a patented design. Control is Siemens or Heidenhain. Sensors and PAMA software are aimed at unattended running, with pallet systems as an option.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Fixed portal with moving crossrail, so tool overhang does not grow with Z
  • Acceleration of 3 m/s² and rapids up to 50,000 mm/min on X, Y and Z
  • Two five-axis heads, each with an 8,000 rpm high-torque or 12,500 rpm high-speed spindle
  • A head with 5,000 Nm (3,688 lb-ft) contouring and 10,000 Nm (7,376 lb-ft) clamping torque
  • Table combining rolling bearings and hydrostatic support

Limitations

  • Table load is up to 12,000 kg, the lowest of the Speedmat machines
  • Z stroke of the crossrail is 1,300 - 1,700 mm
  • Spindle power and torque are stated in S6-40%, with no S1 figure on the sheet
  • Only Siemens or Heidenhain CNC are named for this model

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What kind of machine is the PAMA Speedmat VM?

A five-axis vertical machining centre. It has a fixed portal structure with a moveable crossrail and a travelling table. The milling version is the Speedmat VM, and PAMA also builds a milling and turning version, the Speedmat VMT, with a turning table.

02 How big are the three Speedmat VM sizes?

PAMA gives maximum workpiece diameters of 1500 mm, 2000 mm and 3000 mm. Across the range, X travel is 1,700 - 2,700 mm, Y travel 1,500 - 2,700 mm and crossrail travel in Z 1,300 - 1,700 mm, with tables of 1,000 x 1,000 - 2,000 x 2,000 mm carrying up to 12,000 kg.

03 What spindles does the Speedmat VM offer?

Both the HVA head and the A head are Direct Drive and list 84 / 85 kW and 901 / 450 Nm, rated S6-40%, at 8,000 / 12,500 rpm. PAMA describes these as a high torque version and a high-speed version of the electronic spindle, available on either head.

04 What is the difference between the HVA head and the A head?

The HVA head has a continuous axis inclined at 45°, with 4,000 Nm (2,950 lb-ft) contouring and 8,000 Nm (5,901 lb-ft) clamping torque. The A head has a continuous tilting axis and is stiffer: 5,000 Nm (3,688 lb-ft) contouring and 10,000 Nm (7,376 lb-ft) clamping.
