DMS Freedom8 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the DMS Freedom8 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from DMS or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The DMS Freedom8 is the full-sheet model of the Freedom line, a 3-axis moving-gantry router with a 48 x 96 in (1,219 x 2,438 mm) cutting area. One standard sheet of plywood, plastic or composite panel fits the 4 ft x 8 ft phenolic table without cutting down, which is the whole point of the size. Z travel is 12 in (305 mm) with 9 in (229 mm) of clearance under the bridge.

Sheet work is mostly about getting from one cut to the next, and the rapid feed rate is up to 1,400 ipm (35.6 m/min). All three axes use a precision ball screw drive with Fagor AC servo motors and amplifiers, and X and Y are laser calibrated. The control is a Fagor 8070 OL with a 17 in color LCD display.

The spindle list is longer than the table size suggests. A Hiteco 10 hp (7.5 kW) electro spindle is standard, yet the comparison table lists units up to 13 kW / 15 kW, where the Freedom4 and Freedom10 stop at 8 kW. That headroom is useful for larger cutters in hardwood and for light aluminum, both of which DMS names for this model. An optional C-axis upgrade is listed too.

Hold-down is extra: Becker vacuum pump systems of 5, 10 or 15 hp are optional. The hood takes a 5 in dust line. Power is 220 V 3-phase at 60 Hz, and lubrication is manual. DMS still publishes this page, but its Freedom overview now lists the Freedom Forge, with the same cutting area, instead of the Freedom8, so ask which of the two is being offered.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 48 x 96 in (1,219 x 2,438 mm) cutting area takes a full 4 ft x 8 ft sheet
  • Rapid feed rate up to 1,400 ipm (35.6 m/min) on ball-screw axes
  • Spindle options up to 13 kW / 15 kW, above the 8 kW limit of the Freedom4 and Freedom10
  • Fagor 8070 OL control with a 17 in color LCD display and Fagor AC servo motors
  • A C-axis is available as an optional upgrade

Limitations

  • Clearance under the bridge is 9 in (229 mm), less than the 12 in (305 mm) of Z travel
  • Vacuum hold-down is an option, in 5, 10 or 15 hp pump sizes
  • The standard table is 1 in phenolic; aluminum is an upgrade
  • Lubrication is manual, so greasing the axes is an operator task

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Does the DMS Freedom8 take a full sheet?

Yes. The cutting area is 48 x 96 in (1,219 x 2,438 mm) on a standard 4 ft x 8 ft phenolic table, so a full sheet fits. Z-axis travel is 12 in (305 mm), with 9 in (229 mm) of clearance under the bridge.

02 How fast is the Freedom8?

DMS lists a maximum rapid feed rate of up to 1,400 ipm (35.6 m/min). The axes are driven by precision ball screws with Fagor AC servo motors and amplifiers, and the maximum spindle speed is 24,000 rpm.

03 What spindle options does the Freedom8 have?

The standard spindle is a Hiteco 10 hp (7.5 kW) electro spindle. The comparison table lists Hiteco MT200, MT201, PT300 and PT400 units covering 4.5-13 kW, with a maximum of 13 kW / 15 kW. The Freedom4, by comparison, is limited to 8 kW.

04 Is vacuum hold-down included on the Freedom8?

No. Becker vacuum pump systems of 5, 10 or 15 hp are listed as optional. The standard table is 1 in phenolic, upgradeable to aluminum, and the dust collection hood is compatible with 5 in lines from the customer's own collector.
