Overview

Oversize sheet is what the Industrial CNC Craftsman 510 is for. Its working area of 60 x 120 x 12 in (1,524 x 3,048 x 305 mm) takes the larger panels sold in plastics, aluminium composite and some plywood and MDF grades, which the Artisan 408 cannot hold in one piece. The table is 69 x 137 in (1,753 x 3,480 mm) and the machine weighs 2,500 lb (1,134 kg) net.

A bigger sheet means more parts per nest and fewer offcuts, but it also means a longer gantry span and a longer driven axis. Industrial CNC keeps the same layout as on the smaller tables: gear-reduced rack and pinion on X and Y with a motor on each side of the gantry, a ball screw on Z, and a welded steel frame. Rapid speed stays at 0-900 ipm (0-22.9 m/min).

The spindle is the liquid-cooled high-frequency type, variable to 24,000 rpm, holding tools in ER collets. Its power is not given. With a sheet this size, clamping around the edge leaves the middle unsupported, so the optional multi-zoned vacuum bed is worth pricing with the machine; the standard top is T-slot with clamps.

Compared with the Artisan 408, at 48 x 96 x 12 in (1,219 x 2,438 x 305 mm) and 1,980 lb (898 kg), the Craftsman is the next step up in X, Y and weight on the same Z. The Craftmaster 612 goes further, to 73 x 144 x 12 in (1,854 x 3,658 x 305 mm). Supply voltage is AC 220 V.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 60 x 120 x 12 in (1,524 x 3,048 x 305 mm) working area for oversize sheets in one setup
  • Same 0-900 ipm (0-22.9 m/min) rapid speed as the shorter tables, with the gantry driven from both sides
  • Liquid-cooled high-frequency spindle, variable to 24,000 rpm, with ER collets
  • Open-architecture bed with T-slot and clamp hold-down as standard

Limitations

  • Needs floor space for a 69 x 137 in (1,753 x 3,480 mm) table plus loading room on the long sides
  • The multi-zoned vacuum bed that large sheets call for is an option
  • Spindle power is not published; the 8-station tool changer is an accessory
  • Crate is 142 x 78 x 34 in (3,607 x 1,981 x 864 mm) at 2,500 lb (1,134 kg) net, so rigging has to be planned
06

Best For

60 x 120 in (1,524 x 3,048 mm) plastic, composite and panel stock Nested parts where a larger sheet raises yield Exhibit, display and sign work with large single-piece panels Shops that also run standard sheets and want room for fixtures beside them

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the largest sheet the Craftsman 510 will cut?

The working area is 60 x 120 x 12 in (1,524 x 3,048 x 305 mm). A sheet of that size uses all of the X and Y travel, so edges have to be located accurately. The table under it measures 69 x 137 in (1,753 x 3,480 mm).

02 How does the Craftsman 510 compare with the Artisan 408?

The Artisan 408 has a 48 x 96 x 12 in (1,219 x 2,438 x 305 mm) working area and weighs 1,980 lb (898 kg). The Craftsman 510 is larger in X and Y at 60 x 120 x 12 in (1,524 x 3,048 x 305 mm) and weighs 2,500 lb (1,134 kg). Rapid speed, drive type, spindle type and Z are the same in both tables.

03 Is vacuum hold-down included?

No. The standard machine has a T-slot table top with clamps. A multi-zoned vacuum bed with a regenerative pump is offered as an option, and its electrical requirements are quoted separately from the AC 220 V machine supply.

04 What materials is the Craftsman 510 meant for?

The maker lists woods, aluminium, plastics, solid surface material, acrylics, foams and ACM. With a spindle that is variable to 24,000 rpm and no published power figure, ask for the rating of the quoted spindle before planning heavy cuts in aluminium.
