How much does the Thermwood LFM cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Thermwood LFM that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Thermwood LFM (Large Format) is a 3-axis CNC router with a 10 foot wide bed, in table sizes of 10'x20', 10'x30' and 10'x45'. An 18 HP (13.4 kW) variable speed router at 24,000 RPM is standard, and Thermwood quotes indexing speeds of over 3,000 IPM (76.2 m/min). It is built for large composite parts, three dimensional patterns and oversized sheet.
Width is what the LFM adds to the range. Thermwood's other long-bed three-axis machine, the Model 63, is listed in 5'x10', 5'x20' and 5'x40' tables; the LFM doubles the width, so two rows of 5'x10' sheets or one wide panel fit side by side. The table is fixed stress-relieved steel and the gantry moves.
Vacuum is divided to match. On the 10'x45' machine Thermwood shows (9) 5'x10' high flow vacuum zones, so a single sheet can be held in one zone without drawing air through the rest of the bed, and 11 programmable pop-up pins locate material against a known edge. On a table this size, walking a sheet into position by eye is slow; the pins make loading repeatable.
Tool changing is done at the head. The 5 position at-the-head automatic tool changer rides with the spindle, which avoids a long trip back to a fixed rack on a 10'x45' bed, and a high-tolerance tool length sensor measures each tool. Five tools is enough for most trimming and surfacing programs but few for nested cabinet work with several profiles and drills.
A total automatic lubrication system is included, and the control is the Touch Screen Ultra 6 SuperControl. Thermwood's LFM page places Siemens servo drives, laser compensated axis alignment and an air-conditioned control cabinet under available options, which differs from its other models, so confirm what the base machine includes.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Tables of 10'x20', 10'x30' and 10'x45' on a fixed stress-relieved steel bed
- 18 HP (13.4 kW) variable speed router is the standard spindle, not an upgrade
- Indexing speeds of over 3,000 IPM (76.2 m/min) shorten moves across a long table
- 5 position at-the-head automatic tool changer travels with the spindle
- (9) 5'x10' high flow vacuum zones on the 10'x45' machine, with 11 programmable pop-up pins for locating sheets
Limitations
- Tool changer holds 5 positions and no larger changer is listed
- Three axes only; five-axis work on a wide bed needs the Model 70 or MAX 5
- Laser compensated axis alignment and Siemens servo drives appear under available options on the LFM page
- No Z travel or gantry clearance figure is published

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Three table sizes are listed: 10'x20', 10'x30' and 10'x45'. All of them use a fixed stress-relieved steel table with a moving gantry. The 10'x45' machine is the one shown on Thermwood's page, with (9) 5'x10' high flow vacuum zones.
02
Thermwood states fast indexing speeds of over 3,000 IPM (76.2 m/min). That is a positioning figure, not a cutting feed. On a 10'x45' table it decides how long the gantry spends travelling between features and to the far end of the bed.
03
An 18 HP (13.4 kW) variable speed router running at up to 24,000 RPM, with a 5 position at-the-head automatic tool changer and a high-tolerance tool length sensor. Because the changer is at the head, a tool change takes place wherever the gantry happens to be.
04
Both are three-axis machines with a stationary table and a moving bridge for large parts and patterns. The Model 63 is listed in 5'x10', 5'x20' and 5'x40' tables with a 12 HP (8.9 kW) spindle as standard. The LFM is 10 feet wide, in 10'x20', 10'x30' and 10'x45' tables, and its standard router is 18 HP (13.4 kW).
05
Z travel and clearance under the gantry, since neither is published. Also ask which items are in the base machine: the LFM page lists three dimensional laser compensated axis alignment, Siemens intelligent servo drives, a 1 TB solid state hard drive and an air-conditioned control cabinet under available options.
