Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Danobat HG-72 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Danobat HG-72 is the smaller of the two HG heavy-duty cylindrical grinders, offered in grinding lengths of 2,000, 3,000 or 4,000 mm (78.7, 118 or 157 in) and swing classes of Ø640 or Ø840 mm (Ø25.2 or Ø33.1 in). Danobat prints most rows of its table as lists of choices, so the HG-72 is better read as a platform than as one fixed machine.
The weight row shows this most clearly. Maximum weight between centers is 700, 1,500 or 2,500 kg (1,543, 3,307 or 5,511 lb), a spread of more than three to one inside a single model name. Wheelhead power is 22, 30 or 45 kW (29.5, 40.2 or 60.3 hp). The wheel can be Ø610, Ø760 or Ø915 mm, with the largest marked as not available with the B-axis. Peripheral speed is listed as 60 / 120 m/s (11,811 / 23,622 sfpm), the higher figure being the range used for superabrasives.
Structure is conventional and heavy: stress-relieved pearlitic cast iron with coolant channels for thermal stability. The X axes run on hydrostatic V and flat slideways. The Z axes are ground and hand-scraped V and flat ways with an antifriction coating. For the swivelling B axis Danobat quotes a repeatability of ±1 µm on a 650 mm (25.6 in) radius, with a torque motor and mechanical locking.
Danobat calls the HG the Swiss Army knife of large grinders, meaning modular wheel heads with multiple wheels and ID/OD combinations, plus curvic, non-round and eccentric grinding. Its MDM multi-diameter gauge covers 400 or 600 mm (15.7 or 23.6 in) on this model. Parts heavier than 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) belong on the HG-92, which is rated 5,000 kg (11,023 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Configurable capacity: 2,000 to 4,000 mm (78.7 to 157 in) of grinding length and up to 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) between centers
- Hydrostatic V and flat slideways on the X axes, which Danobat says hold constant stiffness and avoid stick-slip at low feeds
- B axis repeatability of ±1 µm on a 650 mm (25.6 in) radius, torque-motor driven
- Wheel peripheral speed of 60 / 120 m/s (11,811 / 23,622 sfpm)
- Modular wheel heads with multiple wheels and ID/OD combinations; curvic, non-round and eccentric grinding
- MDM gauge guarantees IT3 up to diameter 80 mm and IT2 from 80 mm onwards from the first part, per Danobat
Limitations
- The Ø915 mm wheel is not available with the B-axis
- Base versions start at 700 kg (1,543 lb) and 22 kW (29.5 hp), so the headline figures depend on what is ordered
- Maximum ground diameter is Ø840 mm (Ø33.1 in); the HG-92 goes to Ø1,040 mm (Ø41 in)
- Z axes use scraped, coated ways, not the hydrostatic ways fitted to both axes of the WT series

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Danobat lists maximum grinding lengths of 2,000, 3,000 or 4,000 mm (78.7, 118 or 157 in) and maximum ground diameters of Ø640 or Ø840 mm (Ø25.2 or Ø33.1 in). These are variants of one model, so the quotation should state which length and swing are supplied.
02
700, 1,500 or 2,500 kg (1,543, 3,307 or 5,511 lb), depending on the version. The table does not tie each weight to a specific length or swing. For anything above the top figure, the HG-92 carries 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) between centers.
03
Maximum grinding wheel diameters are Ø610, Ø760 or Ø915 mm, the last one not available with the B-axis. Wheelhead power is 22, 30 or 45 kW (29.5, 40.2 or 60.3 hp), and the maximum wheel peripheral speed is 60 / 120 m/s (11,811 / 23,622 sfpm).
04
Size class. The HG-92 grinds 3,000 to 5,000 mm (118 to 196 in) long and Ø840 or Ø1,040 mm (Ø33.1 or Ø41 in) in diameter, with a single weight rating of 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) and wheelhead power from 30 kW (40.2 hp). The HG-72 starts shorter, lighter and with a 22 kW (29.5 hp) wheelhead.
05
Danobat describes hydrostatic V and flat slideways on the X axes, where an oil layer gives constant stiffness and reduces stick-slip at low feeds. The Z axes are ground and hand-scraped V and flat ways coated with antifriction materials. The machine structure is stress-relieved pearlitic cast iron.
