CHMER AW12L — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the CHMER AW12L that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from CHMER or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The CHMER AW12L is the largest wire EDM in the AMStech AW series, with 1,200 x 800 mm (47.2 x 31.5 in) of X and Y travel and a 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) workpiece rating. Z travel is 300 mm (11.8 in). The table lists a maximum workpiece of 1,600 x 1,100 x 295 mm (63.0 x 43.3 x 11.6 in).

One row in CHMER's table needs a question before ordering. Every other L model in the series is listed with XY Linear Motor as its axis drive system; the AW12L row reads AC Servo Motor. The rapid traverse figure is nonetheless the same 1,800 mm/min (70.9 ipm) as on the AW10L. Whether the largest frame really is servo driven, or the row is a slip, is something only CHMER can confirm.

Everything about the machine is scaled for mould bases. Water capacity is 3,000 L (793 gal). Weight is given as 10,800 kg + 3,000 kg. The footprint is 4,450 x 5,100 mm (175.2 x 200.8 in) with a height of 2,500 mm, so foundation, crane access and water treatment all belong in the project plan.

Taper capability matches the AW8L and AW10L at ± 21° / 180 mm on 150 x 150 mm (5.9 x 5.9 in) of U and V travel. Wire from 0.15 to 0.3 mm is used, with 0.25 mm standard.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,200 x 800 mm (47.2 x 31.5 in) of X and Y travel, the largest in the AW series
  • 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) workpiece rating
  • Workpieces up to 1,600 x 1,100 x 295 mm (63.0 x 43.3 x 11.6 in)
  • ± 21° / 180 mm taper rating
  • 1,800 mm/min (70.9 ipm) maximum X, Y rapid traverse

Limitations

  • Drive row reads AC Servo Motor, unlike the XY Linear Motor of the AW10L; needs confirming
  • 3,000 L (793 gal) of water capacity to service
  • 4,450 x 5,100 mm (175.2 x 200.8 in) footprint and 10,800 kg + 3,000 kg listed weight
  • Z travel is still 300 mm (11.8 in)

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Does the AW12L have linear motors?

CHMER's table for the AW12L gives the axis drive system as AC Servo Motor, while the AW8L and AW10L are listed with XY Linear Motor. The rapid traverse is the same 1,800 mm/min (70.9 ipm) on all three. Ask CHMER to confirm the drive before ordering.

02 What is the capacity of the AW12L?

Travels are 1,200 x 800 x 300 mm (47.2 x 31.5 x 11.8 in). The maximum workpiece is 1,600 x 1,100 x 295 mm (63.0 x 43.3 x 11.6 in) and 5,000 kg (11,023 lb), against 3,000 kg (6,614 lb) on the AW10L.

03 What does installing an AW12L involve?

The machine measures 4,450 x 5,100 x 2,500 mm (175.2 x 200.8 x 98.4 in) and its weight is listed as 10,800 kg + 3,000 kg (23,810 lb + 6,614 lb). Water capacity is 3,000 L (793 gal). Add up to 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) of workpiece when checking the floor.

04 What wire and taper does the AW12L support?

Wire of 0.15-0.3 mm (0.006-0.012 in), 0.25 mm standard, at 300-2,500 gf of tension. The taper rating is ± 21° / 180 mm (width, DA + DB = 15 mm) with U and V travel of 150 x 150 mm (5.9 x 5.9 in).
