Overview

The Campro NT-208 (Box) is the plain 2-axis version of the NT series: an 8 in chuck CNC lathe on a 30° slant bed with box ways, a 10-station hydraulic turret and a tailstock. It turns up to Ø420 mm (16.5 in) in diameter and 550 mm (21.6 in) in length.

Campro presents the NT series as a modular platform. The same one-piece slant bed can be equipped with linear or box guideways, a living turret with C axis, a Y axis or a sub-spindle, and this model is the starting point of that list. The maker's pitch for the bed is stiffness: high quality cast iron, reinforced ribs for heavy-duty turning, and a one-piece slant design that it says offers more rigidity and thermal stability than a flat bed with a raised wedge.

The spindle is an A2-6 unit with an 11 / 15 kW (20 HP) motor and a 4,200 rpm limit, and the hole through the draw tube is Ø52 mm. Those are the figures of the CPL-208 as well, so the choice between the two is about the ways. The CPL-208 runs on linear guideways and rapids at 24 m/min in X; the NT-208 (Box) is listed at 20 / 24 m/min for X / Z and is the one to pick for interrupted and heavy cuts.

Its tailstock is fully specified, with 460 mm (18.1 in) of body travel, a Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in) quill moving 120 mm (4.7 in) and an MT-#4 taper. The machine measures 3,839 × 1,950 x 1,785 mm (W x D x H), weighs 4,200 kg (9,259 lb) and needs 20 kVA. No coolant tank or air figures are given in the table.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Box ways on a one-piece 30° slant bed, built for heavy-duty turning
  • Ø420 mm (16.5 in) maximum turning diameter and 550 mm (21.6 in) turning length
  • 11 / 15 kW (20 HP) spindle at up to 4,200 rpm
  • Tailstock with 460 mm (18.1 in) of travel and a Ø80 mm (Ø3.1 in) quill
  • Low machine height of 1,785 mm and a 20 kVA supply

Limitations

  • Hydraulic turret with 10 stations; the NT-208S has a 12-station servo turret
  • No driven tools, C axis, Y axis or sub-spindle on this version
  • X rapid of 20 m/min is below the 24 m/min of the linear-guide CPL-208
  • The table lists no chuck option beyond 8 in

Best For

Heavy and interrupted turning cuts on mid-size steel parts Shaft work supported by the tailstock up to 550 mm (21.6 in) Simple 2-axis production where live tooling is not needed Shops that prefer box ways over linear guideways

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does (Box) mean in NT-208 (Box)?

It refers to the box guideways. Campro's NT series can be equipped with linear or box guideways, and the table for this model is headed NT-208 (Box way). The bed is a one-piece 30° slant casting that Campro says gives more rigidity and thermal stability and allows heavier cutting in a smaller footprint.

02 What are the turning capacities of the NT-208 (Box)?

Maximum swing over the bed is Ø580 mm (22.8 in) and over the carriage Ø390 mm (15.3 in). Maximum turning diameter is Ø420 mm (16.5 in) and maximum turning length 550 mm (21.6 in). X axis travel is 210 + 20 mm and Z axis travel 570 mm (22.4 in).

03 What turret does the NT-208 (Box) have?

A hydraulic turret with 10 stations, taking □25 / Ø40 mm (O.D. / I.D.) tooling. It carries no driven tools. For milling and drilling on the same platform Campro lists the NT-208M, which has a 12-station servo live turret and a C axis.

04 How large is the NT-208 (Box)?

The table gives 3,839 × 1,950 x 1,785 mm (151 in x 76 in x 70 in) as width, depth and height. Machine weight is 4,200 kg (9,259 lb) and power capacity 20 kVA. Rapid traverse is 20 / 24 m/min (787.4 / 944.8 in/min) for X / Z.
