Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Breton Ultrix E2 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Breton Ultrix E2 is the smallest of Breton's trunnion-table machining centres for combined milling and turning. It is a 5-axis vertical machine on a gantry architecture with travels of 1,150 mm (45.3 in) in X, 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in Y and 700 mm (27.6 in) in Z, and a rotary table 1,250 mm (49.2 in) in diameter that carries 1,500 kg (3,307 lb).
Turning is done on that table. Its speed in S6 is 500 rpm, and the table lists a maximum torque in S6 of 2,700 Nm (1,991.5 lb-ft) in the same block of rows, without stating which drive the figure belongs to. The C axis is unlimited and the A axis tilts from -30° to 120°, so a disc or casing can be turned flat, then tipped past vertical for radial holes and scallops.
Breton adds a feature of its own for the turning side: a vertical boring bar fixed rigidly to the ram, position-controlled, with hydraulic brakes that lock it anywhere in its stroke. On the E2 the turning bar stroke is 225 mm (8.9 in), half that of the larger versions, and the tool interface is Capto C8.
Of the three Ultrix sizes this one is the quick one. Rapids are 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) in X and Y, and the rotary axes run at 50 rpm in A and 100 rpm in C. The Breton Ultrix E3 lists 50 m/min (1,969 ipm), 30 rpm and 60 rpm.
The base frame is Metalquartz, Breton's own material. No milling spindle power or speed is given in the version table.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Milling and turning in one clamping on a trunnion table of 1,250 mm (49.2 in) diameter
- Rotary table speed of 500 rpm in S6 with an unlimited C axis
- Fastest Ultrix: 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) in X and Y, 50 rpm in A and 100 rpm in C
- Dedicated vertical boring bar with position control and hydraulic brakes
- Metalquartz base frame for stiffness and stability
Limitations
- Table payload is 1,500 kg (3,307 lb), against 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) on the Breton Ultrix E3
- Turning bar stroke is 225 mm (8.9 in), which limits the depth of internal turning
- A axis tilts from -30° to 120°, not symmetrically
- No milling spindle power, torque or speed in the version table

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The rotary table is 1,250 mm (49.2 in) in diameter with a payload of 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). Linear travels are 1,150 mm (45.3 in) in X, 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in Y and 700 mm (27.6 in) in Z. The page does not publish a maximum swing for this version.
02
The trunnion table doubles as the turning spindle, with a listed speed of 500 rpm in S6 and an unlimited C axis. Turning tools are carried by a vertical boring bar rigidly connected to the ram, which has a stroke of 225 mm (8.9 in) on this version and takes Capto C8 tooling.
03
The Breton Ultrix E3 is larger and carries more: 1,700 mm (66.9 in) of X, 1,600 mm (63.0 in) of Y, 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Z and a 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) payload. The E2 is faster, with 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) rapids in X and Y and a C axis at 100 rpm.
04
Breton makes the base frame of Metalquartz, which the page lists as a Breton patent. The maker's stated purpose is maximum stiffness and stability, together with easy and safe access to the machine for the operator.
