Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Breton Hawx E2 K38 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
With 3,800 mm (149.6 in) of X and 2,700 mm (106.3 in) of Y, the Breton Hawx E2 K38 is the Hawx with the most balanced work area: a 5-axis gantry machining centre for milling, contouring and trimming of light alloys, polymers, resins and composites. Z is 1,300 mm (51.2 in).
Much of what this machine can do depends on its head. A covers -135° to 105° and C covers -270° to 270°. Breton describes the head as having a double spindle axis offset, and says the offset geometry increases the machinable volume while giving access to undercuts. In practice an A range that passes well beyond horizontal on one side lets the tool work under a flange or along the return edge of a shell from a single clamping. Both rotary axes turn at 28 rpm.
Is it the right size against its neighbours? The Breton Hawx E1 K40 is close in X at 4,000 mm (157.5 in), but its bridge allows only 1,900 mm (74.8 in) of Y. Parts wider than that need the E2. The E1 answers with more spindle and more speed, so narrow aluminium work is better placed there.
On the E2 the spindle is rated 18 kW (24.1 hp) in S6 with 15 Nm (11.1 lb-ft) of torque, at up to 24,000 rpm. Linear rapids are 70 m/min (2,756 ipm) in X and Y and 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) in Z.
The structure is a box-in-box bridge and ram on U-shape modules. Tools are HSK-A63 / HSK-F63 and the control is Siemens Sinumerik One.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Work area of 3,800 mm (149.6 in) by 2,700 mm (106.3 in) with 1,300 mm (51.2 in) of Z
- A axis range of -135° to 105° for undercuts and return edges in one clamping
- Head with a double spindle axis offset, which Breton says increases the machinable volume
- Box-in-box architecture of the bridge-carriage-RAM unit
- 70 m/min (2,756 ipm) rapids in X and Y
Limitations
- 18 kW (24.1 hp) in S6 is less spindle than the 25 kW (33.5 hp) of the Breton Hawx E1 K40
- X and Y rapids are below the 80 m/min (3,150 ipm) of the Breton Hawx E1 K40
- Rotary axes limited to 28 rpm
- The version table gives no accuracy or repeatability figure

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The linear travels are 3,800 mm (149.6 in) in X, 2,700 mm (106.3 in) in Y and 1,300 mm (51.2 in) in Z. Parts that use most of both horizontal travels, such as body patterns or hull sections, are the natural fit.
02
The table lists the A axis from -135° to 105° and the C axis from -270° to 270°, each with a rapid speed of 28 rpm. C is not continuous, so toolpaths that circle a part many times need to unwind.
03
Width decides it. The Breton Hawx E1 K40 has 4,000 mm (157.5 in) of X but 1,900 mm (74.8 in) of Y, with a 25 kW (33.5 hp) S6 spindle and 80 m/min (3,150 ipm) rapids. The E2 K38 gives 2,700 mm (106.3 in) of Y with an 18 kW (24.1 hp) S6 spindle.
04
The spindle runs to 24,000 rpm and is rated 18 kW (24.1 hp) in S6 and 15 kW (20.1 hp) in S1. Torque is 15 Nm (11.1 lb-ft) in S6. The taper row reads HSK-A63 / HSK-F63.
