Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Breton Hawx E2 K78 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
At 7,800 mm (307.1 in) of X travel the Breton Hawx E2 K78 is the largest machine in the Hawx version table. It is a 5-axis gantry machining centre with 2,700 mm (106.3 in) of Y and 1,300 mm (51.2 in) of Z, intended for high-speed milling and trimming of light alloys, polymers, resins and composites.
Nothing but length separates it from the smaller E2 sizes. Bridge, ram, head and spindle rows are identical down the table, and the K78 reaches its X travel by adding U-shape supporting frames to the starting module. Buying it therefore makes sense only when parts really approach that length, or when two or three shorter jobs are to share the bed. The step below is the Breton Hawx E2 K58 at 5,800 mm (228.3 in).
There is a second comparison to make. The monolithic Breton Hawx E1 K60 covers 6,000 mm (236.2 in) with a faster, stronger specification, but only 1,900 mm (74.8 in) of Y. A long, slim part can go on either; a long, wide one cannot.
Installation deserves attention on a machine of this length. Breton states that the Hawx does not require special foundations and is delivered preassembled with a prewired electrical cabinet, yet the page gives no footprint, weight or connected load for any version. Ask for the layout drawing early.
The working figures are those of the E2 family: 24,000 rpm, 18 kW (24.1 hp) in S6, rapids of 70 m/min (2,756 ipm) in X and Y, an HSK-A63 / HSK-F63 taper and a Siemens Sinumerik One control.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Longest X travel in the Hawx table at 7,800 mm (307.1 in)
- 2,700 mm (106.3 in) of Y, wider than the 1,900 mm (74.8 in) of the Breton Hawx E1 K60
- Modular U-shape frame construction, delivered preassembled with a prewired electrical cabinet
- Breton states that no special foundations are required
- Same 24,000 rpm spindle and head as the shorter E2 sizes, so programs and tooling carry over
Limitations
- No footprint, weight or connected load is published for a machine of this length
- Spindle is rated 18 kW (24.1 hp) in S6, lower than the 25 kW (33.5 hp) of the Breton Hawx E1 K60
- Rapids of 70 m/min (2,756 ipm) mean long traverses take noticeable time
- Z remains 1,300 mm (51.2 in) regardless of length

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The linear travels are 7,800 mm (307.1 in) in X, 2,700 mm (106.3 in) in Y and 1,300 mm (51.2 in) in Z. It is the longest version Breton lists for the Hawx.
02
Not in the published table. Against the Breton Hawx E2 K58, which has 5,800 mm (228.3 in) of X, every other row is the same: Y, Z, rapids, rotary axis ranges, spindle power, torque, speed and taper.
03
Breton says the Hawx does not require special foundations and has minimal commissioning times. The page does not give the footprint or weight, so the floor still has to be checked against the maker's installation data.
04
The Breton Hawx E1 K60 has 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of X, 1,900 mm (74.8 in) of Y, 80 m/min (3,150 ipm) rapids and 25 kW (33.5 hp) in S6. The E2 K78 is longer and wider but lists 70 m/min (2,756 ipm) and 18 kW (24.1 hp) in S6.
