How much does the Breton Hawx E1 K40 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Breton Hawx E1 K40 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Breton Hawx E1 K40 is a 5-axis gantry machining centre for trimming and high-speed milling of light alloys, polymers, resins and composites, with travels of 4,000 mm (157.5 in) in X, 1,900 mm (74.8 in) in Y and 1,300 mm (51.2 in) in Z. It is the shorter of the two E1 sizes. The Breton Hawx E1 K60 has the same Y and Z with 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of X.
What sets the E1 apart inside the Hawx range is the frame. Breton builds it as a self-supporting monolithic structure, delivers it already assembled and tested, and states that it does not require special foundations. The start-up procedure is given as 5 days, of which day 5 is training. For a shop that may re-arrange its floor later, the maker also says the machine can be relocated on the customer's site.
The spindle figures describe a trimming and finishing machine, not a rougher. Maximum speed is 24,000 rpm, with 25 kW (33.5 hp) in S6 and 22 kW (29.5 hp) in S1, and torque of 20 Nm (14.8 lb-ft) in S6. That is enough for small cutters in aluminium and for routing cured laminate, and too little for large face mills in steel. The taper row reads HSK-A63 / HSK-F63.
The two-axis head swings A from -135° to 105° and C from -270° to 270°, each at 28 rpm. Rapids are 80 m/min (3,150 ipm) in X and Y and 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) in Z, which is faster in the horizontal axes than the E2 models: the Breton Hawx E2 K38 lists 70 m/min (2,756 ipm). The control is Siemens Sinumerik One.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Self-supporting monolithic structure that Breton delivers already assembled and tested, with no special foundations required
- Rapids of 80 m/min (3,150 ipm) in X and Y, against 70 m/min (2,756 ipm) on the Breton Hawx E2 K38
- 24,000 rpm spindle with 25 kW (33.5 hp) in S6, the stronger of the two spindle ratings in the Hawx table
- A axis from -135° to 105° gives reach into undercuts without re-clamping
- The automatic 8-cell tool store sits outside the work area and can be extended to a maximum of 64 cells
Limitations
- Spindle torque is 20 Nm (14.8 lb-ft) in S6, so heavy roughing in steel is outside what the figures support
- Y travel is 1,900 mm (74.8 in); the E2 models reach 2,700 mm (106.3 in), as on the Breton Hawx E2 K38
- C is limited to -270° to 270°, so long spiral toolpaths need an unwind move
- The table lists no table load, positioning accuracy or machine weight

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The version table gives 4,000 mm (157.5 in) in X, 1,900 mm (74.8 in) in Y and 1,300 mm (51.2 in) in Z. The rotary axes of the head cover -135° to 105° in A and -270° to 270° in C.
02
Only in length. The Breton Hawx E1 K60 has 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of X travel against 4,000 mm (157.5 in) here. Y, Z, the rapids, the head ranges and the spindle rows are the same in both columns of the table, so the choice comes down to the longest part and the floor space available.
03
The table lists a maximum of 24,000 rpm, 25 kW (33.5 hp) in S6 and 22 kW (29.5 hp) in S1, with 20 Nm (14.8 lb-ft) of torque in S6 and 18 Nm (13.3 lb-ft) in S1. The tool taper is given as HSK-A63 / HSK-F63. These are figures for small tools at high speed.
04
Breton states that the Hawx is delivered already assembled and tested and does not require special foundations. The E1 is built as a self-supporting monolithic structure, and the maker gives the assembly and start-up procedure as 5 days including training.
05
The standard automatic tool store has 8 cells and is placed outside the work area, so tools can be loaded without stopping the cycle. Breton says the capacity can be increased up to a maximum of 64 cells.
