Price estimate
We do not have a price for the AXA VHC 3 - XTS50 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
An SK 50 tilting head, 700 mm (27.6 in) or more of Y travel and a bed of up to 9,000 mm: the AXA VHC 3 - XTS50 is built for wide, long steel parts that have to be machined from above and from the side. Its standard drive no. 131 supplies 286 Nm and 45 kW at 40% DC.
AXA's data sheet gives the Z travel of this model as pairs, horizontal first and vertical second. The base machine has 850 mm horizontal and 790 mm vertical. Two taller builds are printed in brackets, 950 mm / 890 mm and 1,200 mm / 1,140 mm, with matching vertical clearances under the spindle nose of 0 to 890 mm and 0 to 1,140 mm. These bracketed figures carry no "optional" footnote in the table, so ask AXA how they are offered.
Y can be widened to 900 mm, 1,000 mm or 1,100 mm as an optional feature, and the table grows with it because the clamping surface is as wide as the Y travel. Five 18 mm T-slots are standard, six optional, and the load rating is 1,200 kg/m².
Compared with the VHC 50 - XTS, this machine is the lighter and quicker of the two SK 50 choices above the VHC 2 size. It has 9,000 N of feed force and 40/40/30 m/min rapids. The magazine holds 26 tools, extends to 180, and changes in approx. 7 s. The B-axis swivels ± 90°, optionally ± 100°.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- SK 50 tilting head with 286 Nm and 45 kW at 40% DC, or 355 Nm and 56 kW with drive no. 133
- Y travel from 700 mm up to 1,100 mm as an option
- Z travel of 850 mm horizontal, with builds up to 1,200 mm shown in AXA's table
- Spindle nose reaches down to the table in the vertical position
- 40/40/30 m/min rapid traverse in X/Y/Z
Limitations
- Vertical Z travel is shorter than horizontal: 790 mm against 850 mm on the base machine
- Horizontal spindle cannot work closer than 250 mm to the table
- Only one optional drive is listed; the 540 Nm and 820 Nm drives belong to the VHC 50 - XTS
- Fully interpolating B-axis is an optional feature

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The row is headed "Z-traverse range horizontal / vertical". The first figure applies with the spindle horizontal and the second with it vertical: 850 mm / 790 mm on the base machine. AXA also prints 950 mm / 890 mm and 1,200 mm / 1,140 mm in brackets.
02
The VHC 50 - XTS is heavier in every respect: 1,000 mm of Y, 20,000 N feed force, a 540 Nm standard drive and a table rated at 1,500 kg/m², with rapids of 30/30/25 m/min. The VHC 3 - XTS50 has 9,000 N, 286 Nm, 1,200 kg/m² and faster rapids of 40/40/30 m/min.
03
The B-axis swivels ± 90° as standard and ± 100° as an optional feature. Indexing is 0.001°, and a fully interpolating head is optional. AXA describes the tilting head as the core element of the VHC series.
04
± 0.015 mm per 1,000 mm per axis X/Y/Z, measured with the vertical spindle, and ± 0.0075 mm as an optional feature. Repeating accuracy is ± 0.005 mm. The X, Y and Z axes have direct measuring systems.
