Overview

The Haas UMC-750SS is the high-speed build of the 30 × 20 × 20 in (762 × 508 × 508 mm) UMC: a 12,000 rpm spindle, 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min) rapids, and a trunnion that tilts at 170°/sec and rotates at 179°/sec. Haas lists a starting price of US$239,995 for it.

Set beside the UMC-750, the changes are all about time: spindle speed up from 8,100 rpm, cutting feed from 650 ipm (16.5 m/min) to 833 ipm (21.2 m/min), rapids from 900 ipm (22.9 m/min). Tool changes take 1.8 s tool-to-tool and 2.4 s chip-to-chip. Travels, the 19.7 in (500 mm) platter and the 660 lb (300 kg) load limit carry over.

A 660 lb load is a lot of inertia at 170°/sec.
