Overview

The PAMA Speedmat HP is the five-axis member of the Speedmat family. It keeps the T-type layout, a travelling table in front of a moving column, but the headstock carries a tilting milling head with a continuous A axis, not a boring bar. PAMA lists it under five-axis machining centers and builds it in seven sizes.

Two heads are offered. The HVA head has its continuous axis inclined at 45° and a 74 kW (99.2 hp) Direct Drive spindle, listed with 609 / 286 Nm at 8,000 / 12,500 rpm. Its A axis holds 4,000 Nm (2,950 lb-ft) while contouring and 8,000 Nm (5,901 lb-ft) clamped. The AHD head is the heavier fork-type unit with a continuous tilting axis: 55 / 66 / 105 kW, 750 / 320 / 1,035 Nm and 6,000 / 12,000 / 6,000 rpm, with A axis torque of 8,000 Nm (5,901 lb-ft) contouring and 12,000 Nm (8,851 lb-ft) clamped.

Those A axis figures say a lot about intended use. A tilting axis that resists 8,000 Nm (5,901 lb-ft) in motion is meant to cut steel and titanium in full five-axis interpolation, not just to position for finishing.

The working area is smaller and quicker than the boring-bar Speedmat. Swing is 2,200 - 4,600 mm, tables are 1,000 x 1,000 - 2,000 x 2,500 mm with up to 35,000 kg, and the hydrostatic B axis turns at up to 10 rpm. Travels are 2,200 - 4,600 mm in X, 1,700 - 3,500 mm in Y and 2,000 - 3,200 mm in Z, with rapids up to 50,000 mm/min.

A milling and turning version, the Speedmat HPT, has its own column in the technical sheet. Control is Siemens, Heidenhain or Fanuc.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Continuous A axis heads: HVA inclined at 45°, or AHD with a continuous tilting axis
  • AHD head options up to 105 kW and 1,035 Nm, or 12,000 rpm
  • A axis contouring torque of 8,000 Nm (5,901 lb-ft) on the AHD head
  • Hydrostatic B axis with rapid feed up to 10 rpm and loads up to 35,000 kg
  • Linear rapids up to 50,000 mm/min

Limitations

  • No boring bar or W axis; deep boring belongs on the Speedmat or Speedmat RAM
  • Table load of up to 35,000 kg is below the 50,000 kg of the Speedmat
  • Largest table is 2,000 x 2,500 mm
  • The HVA spindle's torque at 12,500 rpm is 286 Nm, so that option is for lighter cuts

Best For

Five-axis machining of large structural and aerospace parts Turbine and energy components needing simultaneous tilting cuts Parts up to 35,000 kg within a 4,600 mm swing Titanium and steel work using the AHD head's contouring torque

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Is the PAMA Speedmat HP a five-axis machine?

Yes. PAMA describes the Speedmat HP as a five-axis machining center. The three linear axes and the rotary table B axis are joined by a continuous A axis in the head, either the HVA head with its axis inclined at 45° or the AHD head with a continuous tilting axis.

02 What are the spindle ratings of the Speedmat HP heads?

HVA head: 74 kW (99.2 hp), 609 / 286 Nm at 8,000 / 12,500 rpm. AHD head: 55 / 66 / 105 kW, 750 / 320 / 1,035 Nm at 6,000 / 12,000 / 6,000 rpm. All are Direct Drive and rated in S1. The columns line up, so the 12,000 rpm AHD spindle is the 66 kW, 320 Nm one.

03 How large a workpiece fits on the Speedmat HP?

Swing diameter is 2,200 - 4,600 mm. Tables or pallets measure 1,000 x 1,000 - 2,000 x 2,500 mm and carry up to 35,000 kg. Axis travels are 2,200 - 4,600 mm in X, 1,700 - 3,500 mm in Y and 2,000 - 3,200 mm in Z.

04 What is the difference between the Speedmat HP and the Speedmat HPT?

The HP is the milling version with a rotary milling table. The Speedmat HPT is the multitasking version with a turning table of Ø1,250 - Ø2,500 mm that runs at up to 350 rpm. Both use the same HVA and AHD heads.
