Overview
The AWEA LG-5040 opens the 4,000 mm Y group of the LG gantry series. X travel is 5,000 mm (196.9 in), Y is 4,000 mm (157.5 in), Z is 1,000 mm (39.4 in), and the fixed table is 5,000 x 3,800 mm (196.9 x 149.6 in): a wide, short table that suits plates, rings and die sets more than beams.
Set beside the LG-5030, the extra metre of Y changes more than the table width. The columns stand 4,800 mm apart (4,500 mm with the water eliminator) instead of the LG-5030's 3,800 mm. Coolant capacity is 1,600 liter against 1,300 liter on the LG-5030. The magazine row reads 32 with 60 as an option, where the LG-5030 table shows 32 only. Y and Z accuracy under VDI is P = 0.030 mm over full travel with Ps = 0.025 mm repeatability; the LG-5030 lists P = 0.025 mm and Ps = 0.020 mm.
X is unchanged between the two. The rapid is 10 m/min (394 ipm) on twin ball screws with optical linear scales, positioning is P = 0.030 mm and repeatability Ps = 0.022 mm. This is the only 4,000 mm Y model with the ball screw drive. The LG-6040 goes to rack and pinion and 20 m/min (787 ipm).
Y rapid is 15 m/min (591 ipm), quicker than X, which is unusual for a gantry and worth using when the program is laid out: stepping across the table costs less time than stepping along it. The standard spindle is the 4,000 rpm CAT50 gear unit with a 22 / 26 kW (30 / 35 HP) motor.
