Price estimate
We do not have a price for the AWEA HVM-3018 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The AWEA HVM-3018 is the entry size of the HVM five-face bridge type machining centers: 3,060 mm (120.5 in) of X travel, 2,500 mm (98.4 in) of Y and 1,000 mm (39.3 in) of Z over a 3,260 x 1,500 mm (128.3 x 59.0 in) table. It is the only HVM with a table rated at 10,000 kg (22,000 lb), and the only one with an X rapid of 20,000 mm/min (787.4 IPM).
Speed is what separates it from the rest of the range. The next model up, the HVM-4018, drops to 15,000 mm/min (590.6 IPM) in X. Y and Z rapids here are 15,000 / 10,000 mm/min (590.6 / 393.7 IPM), and cutting feed runs 1 ~ 10,000 mm/min (0.04 ~ 393.7 IPM). On a part with many separate features along the bed, the short machine loses less time between them.
Read the Y figures together. The columns stand 1,800 mm (70.9 in) apart and the table is 1,500 mm wide, yet the head travels 2,500 mm across. That overtravel is the room a five-face machine needs to bring its spindle down beside the workpiece. The part has to pass between the columns; it cannot fill the Y stroke.
A BT 50 (7 / 24) spindle with a 22 / 26 kW (30 / 35 HP) motor does the cutting. At 39,000 kg (85,800 lb), 9,030 mm (356 in) long and 6,100 mm (240 in) wide, this is the lightest HVM by a clear margin: the HVM-4018 already weighs 49,000 kg (107,800 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- X rapid of 20,000 mm/min (787.4 IPM), the highest in the HVM series
- Y and Z rapids of 15,000 / 10,000 mm/min (590.6 / 393.7 IPM) with cutting feed to 10,000 mm/min (393.7 IPM)
- 39,000 kg (85,800 lb) machine weight, against 49,000 kg (107,800 lb) for the HVM-4018
- Shortest installation in the series at 9,030 mm (356 in) long
- 60-tool magazine as standard, with 90 or 120 tools as options
Limitations
- Table load of 10,000 kg (22,000 lb) is the lowest in the series; the HVM-4018 is rated for 12,000 kg (26,400 lb)
- Only 1,800 mm (70.9 in) between the columns, so wide parts need the HVM-4025 with its 2,500 mm (98.4 in) opening
- Tool change takes 80 sec tool to tool, which adds up on parts that call many tools
- The 400 ~ 1,400 mm (15.7 ~ 55.1 in) spindle nose to table distance is an option, not the standard build

Frequently Asked Questions
01
AWEA lists an X rapid of 20,000 mm/min (787.4 IPM) for the HVM-3018. The HVM-4018, with 4,000 mm (157.5 in) of X travel, is listed at 15,000 mm/min (590.6 IPM). The smaller machine has the shortest X stroke of the series at 3,060 mm (120.5 in) and the lowest machine weight at 39,000 kg (85,800 lb).
02
The distance between the columns is 1,800 mm (70.9 in) and the table is 3,260 x 1,500 mm (128.3 x 59.0 in). Y travel is 2,500 mm (98.4 in), more than either figure, which gives the head room to work down the sides of a part. Size the workpiece and its fixture to the column opening, not to the Y travel.
03
Z travel is 1,000 mm (39.3 in). The distance from spindle nose to table is 200 ~ 1,200 mm (7.9 ~ 47.2 in) on the standard machine and 400 ~ 1,400 mm (15.7 ~ 55.1 in) as an option. AWEA notes that this distance can vary with the options chosen, so confirm it against your tallest fixture and longest tool.
04
60 tools as standard, with 90 or 120 as options. Tools can be up to 400 mm (15.7 in) long and 25 kg (55 lb). The listed maximum diameter is 127 / 240 mm (5.0 / 9.4 in). Tool change time is 80 sec.
05
The listed dimensions are 9,030 mm (356 in) long, 6,100 mm (240 in) wide and 5,600 mm (220 in) high, with a machine weight of 39,000 kg (85,800 lb). Check crane hook height against the 5,600 mm figure before planning the building.
