Overview

The Anger Machining VP-8 is a BBT-40 vertical machining center in the general-purpose size class: 820 mm (32.3 in) of X, 510 mm (20.1 in) of Y and 535 mm (21.1 in) of Z, a 900x510 mm table and a 500 kg (1,102 lb) table load.

Among the three VP models it is the quick one. X and Y rapids are 48 m/min, where the VP-10 and VP-12 list 36 m/min, and acceleration is 6/5/5 m/s². With a chip-to-chip time of 3.6 s and a tool change that Anger puts at 2.0 sec, it suits parts with many operations in one clamping.

Two spindle ratings appear in the table. The first is 12,000 rpm with 11/16.5 kW and 53/78 Nm (S1/S6-25%). The second, in brackets, is 15,000 rpm with 11/20.9 kW and 92/176 Nm. The spindle is direct-drive with a BBT-40 dual-contact interface, which Anger credits with reduced vibration.

The magazine holds 24 tools, or 30 in the bracketed version, up to 150 mm in diameter, 300 mm long and 7 kg. Guideways are preloaded linear guides on all axes with servo motors coupled directly to the ballscrews. A 4th/5th axis on the table is optional, and Siemens, Fanuc and Mitsubishi controls are listed.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • X and Y rapids of 48 m/min, the fastest in the VP series
  • Chip-to-chip time of 3.6 s and a 2.0 sec tool change
  • Bracketed 15,000 rpm spindle listed with 92/176 Nm
  • Tools up to 150 mm in diameter and 7 kg
  • Preloaded linear guideways on all axes
  • Three control makes to choose from: Siemens, Fanuc, Mitsubishi

Limitations

  • Standard spindle torque is 53/78 Nm (S1/S6-25%), modest for heavy steel roughing
  • Table load is 500 kg, well below the 1,300 kg of the VP-12
  • Y travel of 510 mm limits fixture depth
  • Z rapid is 36 m/min, slower than X and Y

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels and table size of the VP-8?

Travels are 820 mm (32.3 in) in X, 510 mm (20.1 in) in Y and 535 mm (21.1 in) in Z. The table is 900x510 mm with five 18 mm T-slots and carries 500 kg (1,102 lb). The maximum part size is given as 900/510/535 mm.

02 What spindle options does the VP-8 have?

The table shows 12,000 rpm with 11/16.5 kW and 53/78 Nm, and in brackets 15,000 rpm with 11/20.9 kW and 92/176 Nm, all as S1/S6-25% ratings. Anger describes the VP spindle as a direct-drive BBT-40 unit with a dual-contact system.

03 How quick is the tool change?

Anger's feature text gives 2.0 sec for the tool change itself, and the table gives a chip-to-chip time of 3.6 s at 1,800 rpm. The changer is inverter-controlled. It holds 24 tools as standard and 30 tools in the bracketed version.

04 How does the VP-8 compare with the VP-10?

The VP-10 adds X and Z travel, 1,020 mm and 600 mm, on a 1,070x610 mm table, with the same 510 mm of Y and the same 500 kg table load. The VP-8 is faster in X and Y, 48 m/min against 36 m/min on the VP-10, and slightly lighter at 5,000 kg.

05 What power does it need?

The table lists 3x380 V and 25 kVA of total connected power. Machine weight is 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) and the dimensions are 2,200/2,642/2,945 mm (L/W/H). Lubrication is given as CL, MQL.
