Overview

At 9,000 kg (19,841 lb) the Anger Machining VP-12 is a different class of machine from the VP-8 and VP-10 at 5,000 kg and 5,200 kg. It travels 1,270 mm (50.0 in) in X, 670 mm (26.4 in) in Y and 710 mm (28.0 in) in Z, and its 1,350x710 mm table takes 1,300 kg (2,866 lb).

That load figure is the headline. Mould bases, large fixtures with several parts, and steel plates that would overload the 500 kg tables of the VP-8 and VP-10 fit here. The table has seven 18 mm T-slots instead of five.

The heavier axes move deliberately. Acceleration is 3/2/2 m/s² and rapids are 36/36/30 m/min, so this is not a machine for thousands of short positioning moves. Chip-to-chip time remains 3.6 s.

The spindle lines in the table are the same as for the smaller models, 12,000 rpm with 11/16.5 kW and 53/78 Nm (S1/S6-25%), with 15,000 rpm, 11/20.9 kW and 92/176 Nm in brackets. For a table that carries 1,300 kg, that is a light spindle, and the BBT-40 interface limits tools to 125 mm in diameter here, 300 mm in length and 7 kg. Large parts with moderate cuts are the fit: plate work, fixture bodies, finishing passes on moulds. Connected power is listed as 30 kVA with the CTS function.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Table load of 1,300 kg (2,866 lb) on a 1,350x710 mm table
  • Travels of 1,270 mm, 670 mm and 710 mm, the largest in the VP series
  • Machine weight of 9,000 kg for damping on large parts
  • Seven T-slots 18 mm wide for flexible clamping
  • Chip-to-chip time of 3.6 s despite the larger frame

Limitations

  • Acceleration of 3/2/2 m/s² and a Z rapid of 30 m/min make positioning slow
  • Spindle power of 11/16.5 kW is the same as on the much smaller VP-8
  • Maximum tool diameter is 125 mm, less than the 150 mm of the VP-8 and VP-10
  • BBT-40 only; no larger taper is listed for this size
06

Best For

Mould bases and plates up to 1,350/710/710 mm Heavy fixtures and workpieces up to 1,300 kg Multi-part fixtures spread over a large table Moderate cuts and finishing on large components

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How much weight can the VP-12 table carry?

1,300 kg (2,866 lb). The table is 1,350x710 mm with seven T-slots 18 mm wide, and the maximum part size is 1,350/710/710 mm. The VP-8 and VP-10 are limited to 500 kg.

02 Is the VP-12 spindle stronger than on the smaller VP models?

No. The table gives one set of spindle figures for all three: 12,000 rpm, 11/16.5 kW and 53/78 Nm as S1/S6-25% ratings, and a bracketed 15,000 rpm version with 11/20.9 kW and 92/176 Nm. The larger machine offers more envelope and load, not more cutting power.

03 How fast does the VP-12 move?

Maximum axis speed is 36/36/30 m/min on X/Y/Z and acceleration is 3/2/2 m/s². For comparison the VP-8 lists 48/48/36 m/min and 6/5/5 m/s². Chip-to-chip time is 3.6 s at 1,800 rpm, the same on all three models.

04 What tools does the magazine take?

BBT-40 tools, 24 as standard or 30 in the bracketed version. On the VP-12 the maximum tool diameter is 125 mm; tool length is up to 300 mm and tool weight up to 7 kg.

05 How much space and power does the VP-12 need?

It measures 2,900/3,266/3,166 mm (L/W/H) and weighs 9,000 kg (19,841 lb). The supply is 3x380 V and the total connected power is listed as 30 kVA with the note (with CTS function).
