Overview

The Hwacheon VESTA-1300B+ offers the widest spindle menu of the 1,330 x 670 x 650 mm (52.4 x 26.4 x 25.6 in) VESTA frame: three BT-40 speeds and two BT-50 speeds, over a 1,500 x 670 mm (59.1 x 26.4 in) table that carries 1,300 kg (2,866 lb). Its sister model, the VESTA-1300+, has the same envelope but offers only one BT-50 speed.

The spindle that sets this model apart is the 6,000 rpm BT-50. It is rated 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp), the highest pair in the table, where the 8,000 rpm BT-50 is rated 15 / 11 kW (20.1 / 14.8 hp) and every BT-40 version (10,000, 12,000 or 15,000 rpm) 18.5 / 11 kW (24.8 / 14.8 hp). Lower top speed with a higher second rating points at steel and cast iron roughing with large cutters, which the BT-50 magazine supports: Ø125 mm (Ø4.9 in) tools with neighbours loaded, Ø245 mm (Ø9.6 in) with the adjacent pockets empty, up to 350 mm (13.8 in) and 20 kg (44 lb).

The price of that menu is traverse speed. Rapids are 30 / 30 / 24 m/min (1,181 / 1,181 / 945 ipm), where the VESTA-1300+ is listed at 36 / 36 / 30 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 1,181 ipm). On long-cycle roughing that difference is small; on parts with many short moves it adds up.

The BT-40 machine weighs 9,000 kg (19,841 lb). BT-50 versions weigh 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) with the standard 24-tool magazine and 11,000 kg (24,251 lb) with the optional 32. BT-40 carries 30 tools. Electrical supply is 45 kVA, rising to 55 kVA for BT-50 with through-spindle coolant, and the coolant tank holds 400 L (106 US gal).

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Which spindles can the VESTA-1300B+ be ordered with?

In BT-40: 10,000, 12,000 or 15,000 rpm, all rated 18.5 / 11 kW (24.8 / 14.8 hp). In BT-50: 6,000 rpm rated 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp), or 8,000 rpm rated 15 / 11 kW (20.1 / 14.8 hp). The BT-50 spindles have a Ø90 mm (Ø3.5 in) bearing bore against Ø70 mm (Ø2.8 in) for BT-40.

02 Why choose the VESTA-1300B+ over the VESTA-1300+?

For the 6,000 rpm BT-50 spindle rated 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp), which the VESTA-1300+ does not list. The VESTA-1300+ is the faster machine, with 36 / 36 / 30 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 1,181 ipm) rapids against 30 / 30 / 24 m/min here. Travels, table and the 1,300 kg (2,866 lb) load rating are the same.

03 How many tools does the VESTA-1300B+ hold?

30 with a BT-40 spindle. With BT-50 the standard magazine holds 24 and a 32-tool magazine is optional. Tool selection is memory random. BT-40 tools are limited to Ø75 mm (Ø3.0 in), 300 mm (11.8 in) and 8 kg (18 lb) with neighbours loaded; BT-50 tools to Ø125 mm (Ø4.9 in), 350 mm (13.8 in) and 20 kg (44 lb).

04 What are the installation requirements of the VESTA-1300B+?

45 kVA, or 55 kVA for BT-50 with through-spindle coolant, and air at 0.5 ~ 0.7 MPa x 690 NL/min. The installation footprint including accessories is 4,787 x 3,721 mm (188.5 x 146.5 in), or 3,613 x 4,559 mm (142.2 x 179.5 in) for the rear type. Weight runs from 9,000 kg (19,841 lb) for BT-40 to 11,000 kg (24,251 lb) for BT-50 with 32 tools.
