Overview

The Anderson FDC-1442 is the longest double column machining center in the FDC-14 series, with 4,200 mm (165.4 in) of X travel. Anderson describes it as its largest model in the series, built for maximum capacity. The table is 4,200 x 1,200 mm (165.4 x 47.2 in) and carries 8,000 kg (17,637 lb); Y and Z travels are 1,400 mm (55.1 in) and 900 mm (35.4 in).

A table more than four metres long and 1,200 mm wide is a beam-shaped envelope. It fits press brake beds, linear guide rails, extrusion dies in sets, aerospace spars and long weldments. It can also be split: two or three fixtures along the table let one part be machined while another is set up, as long as the guarding allows the operator in.

Length slows the X axis. The rapid feed rate is 12/20/20 m/min, so X moves at 12 m/min where the shortest model in the series manages 20. Crossing the full table at rapid takes noticeably longer than on a short machine, and programs with many end-to-end moves should be ordered to avoid them.

Floor space is 10,310 x 4,150 mm (405.9 x 163.4 in) and weight 18,000 kg (39,683 lb). The spindle is ISO 50 at 8,000 rpm with a 15/18.5 kW motor, the magazine is a disk or chain type for tools up to 20 kg (44 lb), and coolant capacity is 900 L. That tank is the same size as on the shorter machines, as is the 50 kVA power requirement. Control makes offered are FANUC, Mitsubishi, Siemens, Fagor and Heidenhain.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 4,200 mm (165.4 in) of X travel, the longest in the series
  • 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) table load on a 4,200 x 1,200 mm (165.4 x 47.2 in) table
  • Same ISO 50, 15/18.5 kW spindle and 2-step gear head as the shorter models
  • Double column structure supports the head across 1,400 mm (55.1 in) of Y
  • Room for several fixtures along one table

Limitations

  • X rapid is 12 m/min, against 20 m/min on the FDC-1417
  • Floor space of 10,310 x 4,150 mm (405.9 x 163.4 in)
  • Y travel does not grow with length; it stays at 1,400 mm (55.1 in)
  • Coolant capacity stays at 900 L and spindle power at 15/18.5 kW despite the longer table
06

Best For

Long beams, rails, spars and weldments up to 4,200 mm Several parts fixtured along one table Heavy workpieces up to 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) Aerospace, energy and heavy machinery components

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How long is the X travel of the FDC-1442?

4,200 mm (165.4 in). The table is the same length, 4,200 x 1,200 mm (165.4 x 47.2 in). Y travel is 1,400 mm (55.1 in) and Z travel 900 mm (35.4 in).

02 Is the FDC-1442 slower than the shorter FDC models?

In X, yes. Its rapid feed rate is 12/20/20 m/min, while the FDC-1432 is listed at 16/20/20 m/min and the FDC-1417 at 20/20/20 m/min. Y and Z rapids, the 10,000 mm/min feed rate and the 8,000 rpm spindle are the same.

03 How much room does the FDC-1442 need?

Floor space is 10,310 x 4,150 mm (405.9 x 163.4 in) and machine height 4,440 mm (174.8 in). The machine weighs 18,000 kg (39,683 lb) and can carry a further 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) on the table, so foundation design matters.

04 What tooling does the FDC-1442 use?

ISO 50 tool shanks. The magazine is listed as Disk/Chain with a capacity row of 24/32, and tools can be up to 350 mm (13.8 in) long and 20 kg (44 lb). Draw bar force is 1,800 kgf.
