Overview

The Anderson VMC-1676 is the shortest of three large-bed vertical machining centers that share a 760 mm (29.9 in) Y travel. X travel is 1,600 mm (63.0 in) and Z travel 700 mm (27.6 in), over a table of 1,700 x 760 mm (66.9 x 29.9 in) rated for 1,800 kg (3,968 lb). The control is a FANUC 0i-MF Plus.

The spindle is specified as a menu. The base machine has an ISO 40 taper, a belt drive and 8,000 rpm with an 11/15 kW motor. The table then lists 10,000, 12,000 and 15,000 rpm speeds, direct and gearbox transmissions, a 15/18.5 motor and an ISO 50 taper as alternatives. A buyer cutting steel with large face mills and one cutting aluminum with small end mills would order quite different machines under this one name, so the spindle line of the quotation needs reading closely.

Z clearance is generous. Spindle nose to table runs from 140 to 840 mm, which leaves room for a tall vise stack, a fourth-axis fixture or a deep part. Rapids are 24/24/24 m/min, with 30/30/24 listed as the alternative, and the cutting feed rate is 12,000 mm/min. Positioning accuracy is ±0.008 mm and repeatability ±0.004 mm.

The magazine holds 24 tools as standard, with 30, 32 or 36 listed, and changes tool-to-tool in 2.5 sec. Tools can be up to 300 mm (11.8 in) long and 7 kg (15 lb). Anderson describes linear guides on all axes, dual chip augers and spindle cooling with temperature compensation. The machine weighs 8,700 kg (19,180 lb) and carries a 480 L coolant tank.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the VMC-1676?

1,600 mm (63.0 in) in X, 760 mm (29.9 in) in Y and 700 mm (27.6 in) in Z. The table is 1,700 x 760 mm (66.9 x 29.9 in) with a working area of 1,600 x 760 mm (63.0 x 29.9 in), and it carries up to 1,800 kg (3,968 lb).

02 Which spindle options does the VMC-1676 have?

The table lists ISO 40 with ISO 50 optional, a speed of 8,000 rpm with 10,000, 12,000 and 15,000 as further figures, a motor of 11/15 kW with 15/18.5 in brackets, and transmission by belt with direct and gearbox in brackets. The table does not say which combinations go together, so ask Anderson to state taper, speed, motor and drive on one line.

03 How does the VMC-1676 differ from the VMC-1876?

Only in length and what follows from it. The VMC-1876 has 1,800 mm (70.9 in) of X travel, a 1,900 x 760 mm table, a 2,100 kg (4,630 lb) table load and a weight of 9,100 kg (20,062 lb). The VMC-1676 has 1,600 mm (63.0 in), 1,800 kg (3,968 lb) and 8,700 kg (19,180 lb).

04 What size tools does the VMC-1676 magazine take?

Up to Ø75 mm in diameter with neighbouring pockets occupied and Ø150 mm without, up to 300 mm (11.8 in) long and up to 7 kg (15 lb). Capacity is 24 tools, with 30, 32 and 36 listed. Selection is random and bi-directional; tool-to-tool time is 2.5 sec.
