Anderson DM-550 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Anderson DM-550 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Anderson or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Anderson DM-550 is a compact drill-and-tap style vertical machining center with 510 mm (20.1 in) of X travel on a 600 × 510 mm (23.6 × 20.1 in) table. The spindle range is listed as 12,000-24,000 RPM, the machine weighs 4,200 kg (9,259 lb), and the table carries 200 kg (441 lb).

Anderson's comparison table shows two tool changers for this machine, and the choice shapes the rest of the specification. An arm-type changer swaps tools in 2.5 sec. A turret changer does it in 1.4 sec, which Anderson promotes as the reason to buy the series, but with the turret the Z travel is 400 mm (15.7 in) in place of 500 mm (19.7 in). For drilling and tapping small parts, where a cycle may hold a dozen short operations, the faster change is worth more than the lost Z. For taller fixtures it is not.

The spindle taper follows the same logic. ISO-40 is the listed standard and ISO-30 the alternative; the smaller taper is the usual partner of a turret and a high-speed spindle. Anderson describes the spindles as direct drive.

Rapid traverse is 48 m/min, with 60 listed as an option, and repeatability is ±0.004 mm. Y travel is 520 mm (20.5 in), slightly more than X, with 550 mm as an option. The magazine holds 24 tools, or 30 as an option. Control makes offered across the range are FANUC, Mitsubishi, Heidenhain and Siemens. Everything known about this model comes from one comparison table: there is no figure for spindle power, torque, tool size or floor space, so those belong on the list of questions for Anderson.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the DM-550?

X travel is 510 mm (20.1 in). Y travel is 520 mm (20.5 in), with 550 mm (21.7 in) as an option. Z travel is 500 mm (19.7 in) with the arm-type tool changer and 400 mm (15.7 in) with the turret. The table is 600 × 510 mm (23.6 × 20.1 in).

02 How fast is the tool change on the DM-550?

2.5 sec tool-to-tool with the arm-type changer and 1.4 sec with the turret. Anderson states that the turret-type ATC delivers 1.4-second tool-to-tool changes. The table gives no chip-to-chip figure.

03 Which spindle does the DM-550 use?

The table lists a maximum spindle speed range of 12,000-24,000 RPM and a taper of ISO-40, with ISO-30 as the alternative. Anderson describes direct-drive spindles up to 24,000 RPM for the series. Spindle power is not stated.

04 How does the DM-550 differ from the DM-750?

The DM-750 is the longer machine: 700 mm (27.6 in) of X travel, an 800 × 510 mm table and a 250 kg (551 lb) table load, at 4,300 kg (9,480 lb). The DM-550 has 510 mm (20.1 in) of X, a 600 × 510 mm table and 200 kg (441 lb). Spindle, tool changers, Y and Z travels and rapids are listed the same.
