Akira Seiki SL40LMC — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Akira Seiki SL40LMC that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Akira Seiki or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The SL40LMC is the largest turning machine Akira Seiki lists with driven tools: a long-bed, geared-head lathe with a C axis. Cutting length is 1,380 mm (54.3 in), Z travel 1,450 mm (57.1 in), and the tailstock travels the same 1,450 mm (57.1 in) on an MT5 quill.

At this length, re-clamping a part for milling is slow and risky, which is the argument for the MC turret. Driven tools run at up to 4,000 rpm with 3.7 kW (5.5 HP) on a BMT65 interface, enough to drill and tap flange holes, mill keyways and cut flats on a shaft that stays between chuck and centre throughout.

The spindle is built for large, tough work: 2,944 Nm (2,171 lb-ft) of peak torque through a gear box, 60 HP (44.7 kW) peak, 2,500 rpm, A2-11 nose. A 15" chuck is standard and an 18" chuck optional. The draw tube bore is 103 mm (4.1 in), maximum cutting diameter 550 mm (21.7 in) and swing over the bed 750 mm (29.5 in).

Some caution about the source is due. The maker's page leaves the long-bed weight cell empty and prints dimensions whose metric and inch figures disagree, so neither appears here. The page URL and heading also spell the model with a letter O. Power requirement is 35 kVA; rapid feed is 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) in X and 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) in Z.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the turning length of the SL40LMC?

Maximum cutting length is 1,380 mm (54.3 in) and Z travel 1,450 mm (57.1 in). Maximum cutting diameter is 550 mm (21.7 in) and X travel 285 + 25 mm (11.2 + 1 in).

02 What driven-tool capability does the SL40LMC have?

A 12-station BMT65 turret with power tooling rated 3.7 kW (5.5 HP) at up to 4,000 rpm, working with a C axis on the main spindle. The application row lists X+Z+C.

03 How does the SL40LMC differ from the two-axis SL40L?

The SL40L has no C axis or driven tools and a slightly longer cutting length of 1,500 mm (59 in). The SL40LMC adds milling capability; the headstock, chuck and bore are the same on both.

04 What supply does the SL40LMC need?

A power requirement of 35 kVA is listed. Chip disposal is a drawer as standard with a conveyor as an option. Weight and floor space should be requested from Akira Seiki.
