Akira Seiki JR XP — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Akira Seiki JR XP that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Akira Seiki or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Akira Seiki JR XP is the smallest vertical machining center in the maker's JR / SR family: 410 mm (16.1 in) of X travel, 430 mm (16.9 in) of Y and 460 mm (18.1 in) of Z over a 560 x 380 mm (22 x 15 in) table. Y is longer than X here, which is unusual and says what the machine is for. It takes one vise or one small fixture, not a row of them.

The spindle is a BT40 unit that runs to 11,000 rpm on 12 HP (8.9 kW) peak. That is the lowest power figure in the family; the SR2 XP, on the same Y and Z travels, has 15 HP (11.2 kW). A 40-taper spindle on a machine this small still means standard tooling and reasonable rigidity for steel, but the motor sets the limit on roughing.

Tool storage is 16T, with tools up to 75 mm (3 in) in diameter, 250 mm (9.8 in) long and 7 kg (15 lb), and a 2.2 s tool change. Table load is listed twice: 360 kg (794 lb) standard and 432 kg (953 lb) maximum.

Floor space is 2,400 x 1,935 mm (94 x 76 in), and the machine asks for 20 kVA and 0.5 MPa (72.5 psi) of air. The control is the AKIRA Mi:845, which the maker describes as Fanuc G code compatible. Chips leave by chip screw into a 150 L (39.6 gal) coolant system.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • BT40 spindle at 11,000 rpm on a machine with only 410 mm (16.1 in) of X travel
  • Y travel of 430 mm (16.9 in) exceeds the X travel, so deep parts fit a short machine
  • Footprint of 2,400 x 1,935 mm (94 x 76 in) on a 20 kVA supply
  • Positioning accuracy listed at 0.01 mm (0.00039 in) with repeatability of ±0.003 mm (±0.00012 in)

Limitations

  • 12 HP (8.9 kW) peak is the lowest spindle power in the JR / SR family
  • The magazine holds 16T, fewer than the 20T of the SR2 XP
  • Maximum table load is 432 kg (953 lb), and the standard figure is 360 kg (794 lb)
  • The same floor space, 2,400 x 1,935 mm (94 x 76 in), buys 550 mm (21.7 in) of X on the SR2 XP

Best For

Single-vise work inside 410 mm (16.1 in) of X travel Second-operation machining next to a larger machine Small parts that need 40-taper tooling Shops limited to a 20 kVA supply

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big is the work envelope of the JR XP?

Travels are 410 mm (16.1 in) in X, 430 mm (16.9 in) in Y and 460 mm (18.1 in) in Z. The table measures 560 x 380 mm (22 x 15 in), and the distance from spindle nose to table runs 75~535 mm (3~21 in).

02 What spindle does the JR XP have?

A BT40 spindle with a maximum speed of 11,000 rpm and 12 HP (8.9 kW) of peak power. The maker's table gives no torque figure, so ask for the power curve if the work involves heavy cuts in steel.

03 How does the JR XP differ from the SR2 XP?

The two share Y and Z travels and the same 2,400 x 1,935 mm (94 x 76 in) floor space. The SR2 XP has 550 mm (21.7 in) of X travel, a 700 x 380 mm (28 x 15 in) table, 15 HP (11.2 kW) and 20T. The JR XP is the shorter, lighter-duty version.

04 How much weight can the JR XP table carry?

The table lists a standard loading of 360 kg (794 lb) and a maximum loading of 432 kg (953 lb). Plan fixtures against the standard figure and treat the maximum as the ceiling for an evenly spread load.
